"I wa* hoping that by thli time
a stirring story would be arriving
In New York, Instead, I'm In ger
man hand* and for the first time In
an all-American officers' camp.
"There shall be written a story
stranger than fiction but It can
not be In this letter. I ran only
tell you that 1 was *o hungry for
freedom and tried with all my heart
to find my way to a typewriter again.
"After the Italian armistice, the
t’bletl ramp swiftly wa* occupied
by the Germans. On the flr*t move
from there, I dashed for liberty, A
burst of machine gun fire cut short
my crawling through the barbed
wire,
"I was placed aboard a train
bound for Germany, High In the
Alps, I leaped from the heuvtly-
g.tarded, speeding train, 1 hit the
rail bed with a terrific Impact.' I
toun i,round and fell directly under
the wheels, ruling Into the center
of the track-bed. I prayed. The
entire string of box-car* mused over
me, Radiy cut and bruised, I
trudged through swamp*, orchards
and mule path* in Urn snow-cov
ered Alps. I>ays of cold and hun
ger. I got within 30 mile* of Swits-
erland, then was recaptured because
I was betrayed by a pretended Ital
ian friend, on October 8,"

success of the egg price support pro
ram which guaranteed South Caro-
nn farmers 33 cents a doxen for first
grade eggs during 1044.
Robb said FDA would purchase
from country buyer*, allowing a live
eent* mark-up above the 35 cent*
.paid farmers, In ten ease lot*.
Centralised shipper* who will he
allowed a six cents mark-up above
the 35-cents support price will be
licensed to buy direct from farmer*
and country buyers, Robb added.
