“MAKE IT DO”
Down Memory Lone
Newberry has grown a park almost
overnight, it seems. We refer to
Memorial park, which is now a thing
of beauty, with its even walks, gree n
grass and shrubbery. Of course this
is just the ■beginning of the memorial
to those who fought in the World
war. A central space has been left
for the memorial proper—a fountain,
possibly, which would certainly be
attractive, or a monument of some
other kind.
The following was clipped from an
account of the Washington conven
tion in The State of Sunday:
“In the report of the president
general of the United Daughters of
the Confederacy, Mrs. Livingston
Rowe Schuyler, attention was called
to The Confederate Veteran as a
means of communication between the
federal U. D. C. and divisions, in the
periods, between conventions. The
Mrs. R. D. Wright, the U. D. C. edi
tor, was especially commended. She
mentioned, too, that the ‘insperation
drawn from speaking to 1,500 young
women at Winthrop college, Rock
Hill, would be of lasting benefit to
the work’.”
Mr. Aithur Eargle has been engag
