British Commandos
The British Commandos got
their name from their former ene
mies, the Boers of South Africa.
These Commandos were bodies of
irregular but very enterprising
and effective scouts, and Winston
Churchill, war correspondent at
the time, was so impressed with
them that he suggested the name
for the raiders of today.
The “American Commandos,”
deciding to call themselves Ran
gers, took their inspiration from
the pre - Revolutionary Rogers’
Rangers who made themselves at
home in the wilds and put the
fear of the Lord in the French and
Indians over the whole Northeast.
