Ralph Hendrix of Radford, Va., spent several days in Newberry last week with relatives. Miss Pauline Summer, and her room-mate, Miss Nanalie Stokes, of Winthrop college, spent the weekend ■with Miss Summers’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Summer on Mayer avenue. Misses Helen and Cornelia Clary, students at Winthrop college, spent the past weekend and Monday with their parents, Mr. ai.d Mrs. J. H. Clary on Boundary street. Mrs John Mayes and two daugh ters, Agnes and Nancy, of Winthrop college, spent the past weekend in Newberry. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kirkpatrick and two children, Bennett and Dorothy, of Winnsboro, spent Sunday with Mrs. Kirkpatrick’s sister, Mrs. M. O. Summer ad Mr. Summer on May er avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert McLaughin and daughter Joanne of Laurens were weekend visitors in the home of Mrs. McLaughin’s sister, and broth er-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lom- inack. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lominack and daughter, Mary Louise, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert McLaughin and daughter, Joanne of Laurens, spent Sunday in the home of Mrs. Lominack’s mother, Mrs. J. D. Blair, at Blairs. Dot Clary of Winthrop college re turned to her school Monday after spending the weekend with her par ents, Mr. and Mfs. J. R. Clary. Pvt. James Sanders, returned to Camp Shelby, Tenn., today (Thurs day) after spending a ten-day fur lough with his mother, Mrs. J. W. Sanders in Silverstreet, and relatives in Newberry. Mrs. Jimmie DeHart of Spartan burg and Sargeant DeHart of Camp Stewart, Ga., spent the weekend with Mrs. DeHart’s mother, Mrs. Verona Dominick and brother, Pinckney N. Abrams on Walnut street. Mr and Mrs. J. W. Haltiwanger of Columbia spent Sunday with Mrs. Haltiwanger’s father, Mr. Charlie Summer on Main street. % —— / Charles Mitchell, representative of Dunn & Bradstreet, visited his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Mitchell last weekend. Pvt. Otis Whitaker, of Fort Bragg, N. C., spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Whita ker. Ensign Joe Purcell left Tuesday for Miami, Fla. after spending his ten day furlough with his mother, Mrs. C. J. Purcell, and other rela tives in the city. Pvt. Walter Clamp, of Camp Stewart, Ga., spent the past week end in Newberry with relatives. Mrs. R. F. Nichols and children, and Mrs. W. Roy Anderson visited Mrs. Nichols’ mother, Mrs. A. S. Heldman in Spartanburg Sunday. Mrs. Gene Heirs and little daugh ter, Rebecca Ann, returned to their home in Charleston Sunday after visiting Mrs. Hiers parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Nichols on Drayton street for three weeks. Pvt. Percie Davis, of Fort Jackson visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. I. S. Davis over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Brradley, of Old Fort, N. C., is visiting Mrs. Bradley’s sister, Miss Bernice Huff. Miss Rosemary Bowers of Win throp college, spent the past week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Bowers. Forrest Carpenter, student at Porter Military academy, Charleston, was a weekend visitor in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Carpenter. Miss Bettie Brown, a teacher in the Estill schools spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wil son Brown on Calhoun street. Pvt. Elbert Aull and Pvt. Albert Felder, of Fort Jackson, spent the past weekend in Newberry. Miss Ruth Vines of Washington, D. C. is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Vines. Lieut. William R. Wise has been promoted from Second Lieutenant to First Lieutenant. Lieut. Wise is stationed at a port of embarkation in North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Baxter, of Clinton, spent Saturday afternoon in Newberry. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Coward of Jal- apa, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Evans and three children, William, Samuel and Norman, of Greenville, Mrs. W. B. Simmonns, Mrs. M. R. Smith and son, M. R. Jr., of Columbia were Sunday visitors in the home of Mrs. J. Robert Long in the Tranwood sec tion of the county. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hutto spent the weekend and Monday in Charles ton with Mr. Frank Sires. Miss Betty Nash of Limestone col lege, spent the past weekend with Miss Jean Copeland and attended the Newberry college Junior-Senior banquet and dance. Miss Frances Wallace of Coker col lege, Hartsville, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Wallace over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gunter spent Sunday in Batesburg with Mr. Gun ter’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ringer of Lan caster, Miss Hariett Hardin, teacher of near Sumter, spent the weekend with Mrs/ C. D. Hardin on College street extension. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas O’Connor, of Clinton and Pvt. Thomas Summer of Camp Stewart, Ga. were weekend visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Summer. Miss Margaret Welbom attended the Annual dance at Clemson college last Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Graham, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fellers and Marcell Renwick visited George Renwick at State Park Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Stevens and children of Lancaster visited friends in Newberry Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Shealy, and Mrs. Irby Hipp of Clinton were Sunday visitors in the home of Mrs. Shealy’s sister, Mrs. O. O. Staff Sargeant Ira Clamp, who .has been stationed at Camp Stewart, Ga. with the National Guards, reported at Kelly Field the first of May where he will receive his basic training as a flying cadet. Sgt. Clamp volunteered for the Aviation Corps several months ago. John Neel, son of Deputy and Mrs. J. C. Neel, who volunteered for the Aviation Corps several months ago, as a flying cadet has received orders to report at Fort Jackson Wednesday, May 20 for further orders. Mr. and Mrs. Neel have another son, G. W. Neel in the Navy stationed at Cape Henry, Va. Miss Ella Mae Milam of Balti more, Md., is here for a visit with her mother and other relatives. Russell Culbertson, stationed at Providence, R. I. in the Naval air corps returned to Rhode Island Sun day after spending several days in Newberry with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hayes and daughter, Virginia, and Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Culbertson, in Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. James Henry Davis and daughter, Barbara, of Radford, Virginia, visited Mr. Davis’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Davis over the weekend. Miss Virginia Hayes of Lander col lege spent several days last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom. Hayes. Mrs. Bill King left Tuesday for a weeks visit with her mother-in-law, Mrs. F. W. King and other relatives in Orlando, Florida. Mrs. James Henry Davis and small daughter, Barbara, of Radford, Va., will spend tjvo weeks with Mrs. Da vis’ in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. W. H.
