The Tax books will be open for the
collection of 1938 taxes on and after
November 1, 1938.
The following is the general levy

months, the sentence to be suspend
ed during good behavior.
Charged with hit and run, Howard
Sleigh was given three months or
3100. Upon the service of 30 days or
the payment of 826, the balance of the
sentence to be suspended during good
behavior.
For disposing of property under
lien, Roberts Watts was sentenced to
five months imprisonment.
The sentence of six months, given
Sant Rhineheart for hit and run, is to
be suspended during good behavior.
George Willard was found “not
guilty” to a charge of violation of
the liquor law.
Jonas Wallenzine, indicted for vio
lation the liquor law, was given three
months or payment of $160, upon pay
ment of $60, the sentence to be sus
pended.
.. Elisha Gallins, also tried on a li
quor charge, was given three months
or. a fine of $160. Upon the payment
of $50, the sentence will be suspended
during good behavior.
Fred Morgan, Riley Weather,
Frank Barrett, Clarence Hunmicut.
and Edd Byors, tried for breaking in
to a motor vehicle with intent to steal,
were given five months each or fines

On and after January 1, 1939,. the
penalties prescribed by law will be
imposed on unpaid taxes.
Those who had their dogs vaccin
ated for rabies during the fiscal
year ending June 30, 1938 by one
authorized by law, and expect to be
exempted from dog tax will please-
bring their certificates of vaccination
when appearing to pay taxes.
You are requested to call for your
taxes by school districts in which
property is located. The Treasurer
is not responsible for unpaid taxes
not called for by districts.

James Hinderson, charged for
house breaking, was not tried. Tbe
grand jury declared “no bill”.
Hicks Young, who was indicted for
operating a car under the influence of
liquor, was remanded to the magis
trate’s court.
Mark Dill and Peter Millstead
charged with bouse breaking and lar-
cency, were releeased under bond.
The cases of S. I. Benson, indicted
for statutory rape, and E. S. Grout
and W. R. Taylor, charged with ob
taining goods by false pretense, were
nolle prossed.
The case of Ollie Coleman, charged
with murder, was continued. Other
cases continued included those of S.
H. Keels, charged with assault and
battery; Hubert Warts, violation of
liquor law; Walt Jones and Everette
Long, violation liquor law; and Dud
ley Nobles, operating a common nus-
iance.
L. J. Bostic, charged with driving
while under the influence of liquor,
was remanded to magistrate’s court.
The case of Carrol Haltiwanger,
charged with bastardy, was a mis
trial.
Johnnie Shealy, charged with as
sault with intent to ravish, by the
order of the court, was placed in the
state hospital for observation.
At the opening of court Monday
morning, Judge Green paid a fin® tri
bute 00 the late Cannon G. B lease. He
said no finer man or officer ever lived.
Judge Green also commended the
county officials. He paid high compli
ments to the personell of the offices of
clerk of court and sheriff.
HOSTESS TO CLUB
Mrs. E. M. Lipscomb entertained
members of her evening bridge club
last Thursday. Players were invited
for two tables.
ENTERTAINS AT BRIDGE
Mrs. J. C. Carpenter entertained
friends at three tables of bridge Tues
day afternoon.
Masses of autumn flowers in russet
tones were used to decorate the home
of the hostess at 901 McKibben street.
When scores were totaled after
several progressions of contract, Mrs.
Griffin Coleman held high and Mrs.
Thomas West, second high. Both
were presented awards. Miss Bessie
Newberry was winner of the bingo
prize.
Late in the afternoon, a salad
course was served.
