tord God, we give Thee thanks this day,
Humbly, in our simple way,
For all the gracious gifts which Thou,
Hast deigned so richly to endow —
For life — for every passing minute —
For this, Thy world, and all things in it!
We give Thee thanks, dear Lord, for these —
The green beneficence of trees,
The kindliness of rain, the birth
Of springtime from a barren earth —
The earth that bears the bread we bre-V

On the other hand, some folks
say, "I don’t have to save any
money now, because social securi
ty will take care of me when I
get old.”
The Social Security Administra
tion wants to correct both these
mistaken opinions.
Old-Age and Survivors Insur
ance was not designed to provide
the luxuries of life. Nor was it
intended to take the place of pri
vate savings and insurance.
Indeed, under present condition,
the average social security benefit
scarcely provides a bare sub
sistence. Planning and saving for
the future are still necessary.
But the point is, old-age and
survivors insurance, augmented by
personal savings is lessening the
financial worries of millions of
American families.
Next week I’ll describe some of
the types of benefit* 1 Meantime,
