Funeral At Gastonia
Mrs. Jamie Smith attended the
funeral of her brother, Mr. H. E.
King, 55, of Gastonia, N. C., on
Dec. 2, who suffered a heart at
tach on Dec. 1st, Mr. King was an
alumnus of Clemson and was an
officer in World War I. He was
a member of the Masonic, and
Shriners Order and member of
-the Gaston Post No. 23, American
Legion.
He was a member of the First
Baptist Church and was first tenor
in the choir.
Mr. King is survived by his
widow, the former Miss _ Helen
Lentz, of Charlotte, N. C.,
children and his mother. He was
engaged in business in Gastonia.

Reign Over Johnston
On December the fifth the be
la Howe boys and girls played
Johnston’s boys and girls in John
ston’s gymnasium.
The line up for the girls was:
Doris Smith, Josephine'Hamilton,
Lois Yopp as forwards, Captain
Betty Ruth Burnett, Jerri Town
send and Carolyn Smith at guard.
Substitutes were: Elaine Orr,
Bernice Smith, Mildred Campbell
and Alice Strock. The score for
the gfrl* was 20-12. Doris Smith
was, high scorer with a total of
twelve points. Tne line up for the
boys was: Richard Limehouse,
center, Captain Calvin Lanford, Joe
Dickson at forward, Bobby Walker
and Ernest Webster at guard.
Substitutes were: Roy Cannon,
Finley Gettys, Johnny Broadway,
and James Dyson. The boys won
with a score of 42-13. Richard
Limehouse was high scorer with a
total of twenty-two.
The boys and girls will play
Connie Mac in Connie Mac’s gym
nasium on Tuesday night, Decem
ber 10th. Then on Friday night,
Dec.-13, there will be a game a-
gainst Abbeville played in De la
Howe’s gymnasium. The public is
cordially invted to attend.

De la Howe Boys and Girls Win
Tuesday night, November twen
ty-sixth, the De la Howe Boys and
Girls played Iva Boys and Girls
in Iva’s gymnasium. The girls’
score was 33-22, and the boys’,
49-17.
The line up for the girls was as
follows: Doris Smith, Lois Yopp,
and Josephine Hamilton as for
wards. ■ Betty Ruth Burnette, cap
tain, Carolyn Smith and Alice
Strock as guards. Substitutes were
Mildred Campbell, Drew Willie
Graham, and Bernice Smith.

Greneker Endorsed
For Judgeship Of
Eleventh Circuit
Edgefield, Dec. 6.—At a recent
meeting of the Members of the Bar
of Edgefield County a Resolution
was passed endorsing Honorable T.
B. Greneker for election to the
Judgeship of the Eleventh Judicial
Circuit and a copy of this Resolu-
ton has been sent to all of the
Members of the General Assmbly.
Mr. Greneker is a graduate of
Wofford College and studied la^
at Georgetown University. He is
a veteran of World War I, serving
with the 118th Infantry, 30th Di-

The Lion’s Club gave the pro
ceeds of their Hallowe’en carnival;
Boy Scout Troop 71 gave all of the
money in their treasury, and the
proceeds of the veteran’s all-star
game were given. It is hoped that
other clubs or organizations will
make contributions.
The rest of the money needed
will be raised through public sub
scription. Friday, the thirteenth,
has been set aside as the day of
collection. So, when a high school
student approaches you tomorrow
write him out a check, or give him
the cash—but make your contribu
tion a generous one.
If you don’t see a student to
morrow, come to the Old Time
Minstrel, tomorrow night, and
make your contribution. The
minstrell is being put on by the
Amercan Legion and the proceeds
will go towards lighting the field.
