The lesson tells of the every-
* day life of a people, but it also
fives the seldom told story of
the love of two women for each
other, of two who sustained a
relation often ridiculed.
After the death of her husband
and of her two sons in me land
of Moab, whither her family had
removed in time of famine,
Naomi determined to return to
her old home in Bethlehem.
Her two daughters-in-law went
with her to the border of the
country. There Naomi begged
them to turn back to their own
people; Orpah kissed Naomi
and in tears turned back, but
Ruth clung to her mother-in-law
* and would not return.
The two reached Bethlehem
at the time of the barley harvest
and the industrious younger
woman at once put aside her
pride and went to work with
the poor, gleaning in the Held of
Boaz. There the wealthy owner
saw her and ere long the bache
lor, having bought a field to
which Ruth would fall heir, made,
the young Moabitess his wife.

dently the marriage was a happy
ene.
Thus did one of foreign birth
come into the ancestry of our
Lord. Grandmother of a great
king, Ruth was infinitely more
—the ancestress of Jesus Christ,

to seek all men had gentile blood

While most of us keep a jar of
peanut butter in the pantry tor
, sandwiches and
snacks, few of us :
realize the real
food ' value of
peanuts, and the
many peanut
products which
may be used to
give variety and
nourishment to
our meals. *
Peanuts are
high in food
value, comparing favorably with
beef. They are a richer source
of calcium and phosphorus than
steaks or eggs, and only slightly
lower in iron. They rate only
slightly under eggs in vitamin
content.
Peanut butter provides all
these properties in a form that
is easy to digest. While it is true
that some of the vitamin value
is lost in reconverting to peanut
butter, the product still contains
sufficient needed elements to be
desirable.
The newer jars of pea- ,
nut butter have been treat
ed in such a way that the
oil will not separate. Light
or dark grades are avail
able. The longer the
roasting period, the deep
er the color. Texture also
varies from cruncuy to
smooth as butter.

small cost may be added to the
meal by serving cream of pea
nut butter soup, peanut butter
and tomato loaf, peanut butter
and potato croquettes, macaroni
and peanut buttor scallop, and
peanut butter and prune or
raisin salad.
Peanut butter toast is an
other very simple and good
, luncheon or supper dish for
. children. Spread hot toast
with peanut butter.
