Lesson for November 11 — Isaiah
t:IS; Ephesians 5:15-21.
Memory Selection—Esalms 111:1.
Soipeone has imagined that
Isaiah, having begun his work as
pi prophet, was duly conscious of
the responsibility involved and re
turned, as it were, in his sixth
chapter, to his call—both to con
firm and encourage himself and to
give authority to his message.
The record of his call is beautiful
ly impressive. In the presence of
phe Lord, sitting upon a throne,
high and lifted up. and attended
Jby the shining and six-winged sera-
pthim, the young man received nis
commission to the prophetic office.
His great experience had all the
elements that are now essential to
noble service—a vision of God. of
eelf, and of the needs. And it came
to him in worship.
Isaiah was worshipping in the
splendid temple on Mount Moriah,
with its elaborate symbolism and
ritual. But the groves, we have
read were "God’s first temples."
And everywhere that man feels the
need of God, there is the house of
God and the "gate of heaven." In
the simple buildings where the
most of men who are worshippers
gather today, there can be a real
worship.
The young man in the temple
i»ad doubtless been depressingly af
fected by the death of Uzziah, the
greatest of Hebrew kings since the
Hme of Solomon, and he was ready
for the vision of the King of kings.
When so much upon which men
had depended has been swept in
the great war, it is a good time to
turn in a sense of need to Him who
is the same "yesterday, and to
day, and forever.”
