C., are here for a few days’ visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hamlin. Master Sgt. and Mrs. Harold Browne and daughter, Bettye Sue, of Charleston visited Mrs. Mary W. Creswell and other relatives here the past week. Sgt. Luther J. Andrews of Jack- son, Miss., spent a fifteen day fur lough here with his. mother, Mrs. Annie J. Andrews. Mrs. Ada C. Kennedy left Wed nesday for her home in Salisbury, N. C., after an extended visit to friends and relatives in the coun ty. Mrs. J. B. Walker and Mrs. E. L. Sanders spent last week in Atlan ta with Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Daugh try and Mrs. S. L. Edmunds. Mrs. Edmunds returned with them to Miss Eloise Britt spent several days last week in the home of Mrs. Irene Gilbert, near town. Mrs. Marvin Smoak and son of North spent ^several days here this week with her mother, Mrs. T. J. Price. — X Birthday Party For Patricia Crotich On last Thursday afternoon lit tle Miss Patricia Crouch was hon or guest at a party given her by her mother, in the park at the community house. The party was in honor of her fourth birthday. Games were played for awhile, af ter which they went to Patricia’s home and ice cream, cake and mints were served them by Mrs. Crouch, assisted by Mrs. Bonnette. Before cutting the cake the little guests sang “Happy Birthday” to Patricia. X- Revival Services Be gin At Modoc Baptist Church August 20th Beginning Sunday evening, Au gust 20th, at 9 o’clock and contin uing through Friday evening, Au gust 25th, there will be revival ser vices at Modoc Baptist Church. The pastor, the Rev. Lewis M. Kirkland, will do * the preaching ; and lead the singing. There will be special music at each service. Methodist Church Schedule For Aug. 20 Rev. War Workers Sought For Hawaii Depot To provide war-workers for the Hawaiian Air Depot, Hickman Field, Hawaii, the Warner Robins Air Service Command has been directed to recruit trainees and experienced personnel and ar range transfers for the required workers in specified categories. Experienced aircraft, engine, in strument, propeller, radio, arma ment, automobile and general me- chanicss are being sought, as well as sheet metal, leather and can vas workers, electricians, carpen ters, machinists, painters, proper ty supply clerks, stock tracers, storekeepers, watchmakers, and welders. Trainee categories include ma chine tool operators, sheet metal workers, aircraft mechanics, elec- tricans and engine mechanics, car penters, instrument mechanics and supply clerks. Personnel accepted for training prior to transfer will be classified as general mechanics helpers at $1500 per annum. Supply person nel will be clerks, CAF-2, $1440 per annum. Through entire training period of 90 to 120 days, trainees will receive $2. per diem, in addi tion to their regular pay. On the basis of 48-hour week, and a 30 <#y month, this amounts to an approximate monthly income of $212 for general mechanics help ers and $206 for clerks, CAF-2. Upon graduation from training, this personnel will be reclassified to junior mechanics and clerks, CAF-3. Upon embarkation from the continental limits of the United States, the yearly salaries for these classes will be increased to $2,828 and $2,463, respectively, which in cludes overtime and overseas pay differentail, the latter amounting to 25 per cent of base pay. Applicants experienced in any of the needed categories will be paid higher salaries consistent with their degree of skill. Experienced workers will leave under early monthly shipments, the first group leaving by the end of this month with other trans fers to be completed in each month with other transfers to be completed in each month for asj long as the need exists. While enroute to Hawaii, trans ferred workers will receive either $6 or $7 per day. Adequate and inexpensive housing is available at the Hawai ian Air Depot, with units for sin gle workers and married couples. Both husband and wife must work at the depot, however, and no pro vision is made for children. Everyone interested is urged to make application through the Air Service Command Representative at the McCormick Courthouse, Fri day, August 25th, from 9:00 A. M. i to 12:30 P. M. This representative will also be in the U. S. Employ ment Service office, Greenwood, S. C., August 21 through 26. Workers employed in essential industry need not apply.
