G ? Plum Branch — On Saturday, June 17, Mrs. J. Ashton Chandler entertained a number of little folks at her home honoring her son. Julian, on his fifth birthday. Vari-colored summer flowers were used on the porch where Julian received his guests and invited them out under the shade trees where seats were pro vided and a succession of games, directed bv Miss Carolyn Rice, w r ere enioyed. Misses Louise Rice and Bettye Ann Langley assisted with the entertainment. Paper hats of pastel shades were donned by each child as they made their way to enjoy re freshments of ice cream and cookies, served from a lace cover ed table which was centered by a beautifullv decorated birthday cake, topped by five candles. The cake was the gift of his aunts, Mrs. W. M. Freeland, and Mrs. R. E. Coleman, who baked and deco rated it. A touch of sentiment was added when Julian mailed the cake to his father. Pvt. J. A. Chandler, i^who is stationed at Camp Stew art. Ga., and was unable to at tend the party. X Preaching At Buffalo Church ’Next Sunday * There will be services at Buffa lo Church Sunday afternoon, Sun day School at 3 o’clock and preaching immediately following. x Local Post Office To Close At 12:00 Noon On Saturdays Postmaster J. E. Bell states that effective Julv 1, 1944, the local post office will be advanced to an (Office of the second class, there fore, the clerks will be on a forty i hour work week and the Post Of - fice Department has directed* him : to close the office at 12:00 o’clock on Saturdays and to remain closed until 8:00 o’clock Monday morning, therefore, there will not be any window service at all on Saturday afternoons and Sundays, altho, there will be a clerk on duty to dispatch outgoing mail, that is deposited in the “drops” properly stamped, but mail not properlv stamped cannot be dis patched, because the stamp stock will be locked and no sales made at all. Section No. 436 of the Postal Laws and Regulations reads in part as follows: “Post Offices of the first and second classes shall not be open on Sundays for the (purpose of delivering mail to the (general public, but this provision shall not prevent the prompt de- i livery of special-delivery mail”. J The clerk that is on duty on 1 Sundays will dispatch such mail 1 in the lock boxes as he has time to, but there will be no other de liveries except as stated regarding special-delivery mail.
