Miss Henrietta Gilbert left for the Adirondack Mountains in New York today where she has accepted work for the summer. . Creig]fk»ii-Leonard The marriage of Miss Mildred Virginia Creighton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Freeman Creighton of McCormick, to John H. Leonard of the U. S. Navy, took place June 3rd at 8:00 o’ clock in Hamlin Methodist Church, Washington, D. C. The Rev. Lucus C. Clark, pastor of the Church, Officiated, using ~tne ring ceremony. Newell N. Oliver of the U. S. Navy attended as best man. Miss Velma Johnson, maid of honor, was the only attendant. She was dressed in a frock of light beige with black accessories and a white hat. Her corsage was of white carnations. The bride wore a two piece dress of sky blue with black ac cessories and a small white hat with a veil of black. Her corsage was a single purple orchid. Mrs. John H. Leonard, Sr., mother of the groom, wore a soft grey chiffon dress with matching hat and white accessories. Her corsage was of pink carnations. After the ceremony, Miss Ray Merber entertained Mr. and Mrs. Leonard and the wedding party with a reception at her apart ment in N. W. Washington. Among the out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. John H. Leon ard, Sr., of New York City. The bride is a graduate of the McCormick High School and at tended Winthrop College. At present she is employed in the personnel office of Labor Statis tics in Washington. Mr. Leonard received his educa tion in Worchester Academy, Wor- chester. Mass. After entering the navy he was stationed at Pearl Harbor for four years. He is now taking special naval-' training in Washington. After a short bridal trip the couple will reside at •• 1723 G. St. N. Decorations in the dining room consisted of a lace-covered table holding the birthday cake richly embossed in pink and white. Mints and mint cups, and other decorations carried out the same color scheme. Mrs. E. M. Chaldea was the land of fabu lous wisdom known to the an cients as “the East.” Daniel and his friends must have esteemed it a great opportunity, when taken captive by Nebuchadnezzar about 600 B. C.. to be put in training for the king’s service, with all the advantages of. mastering the Chaldean learning. That Daniel used his opportunities well may be inferred from the high posi tions to which he rose. But. though they doubtless ap preciated the advantages of edu cation in Babylon, Daniel and his companions resolved not to “de file” themselves with the king’s meat. We do not know exactly why they would not eat the king’s meat. Perhaps it had been offer ed to idols, or was not slaughtered hi the Jewish manner. The pulse which they chose to eat was likely beans or other vegetables. But we must not overlook that the voung Hebrews also refused to take of the king’s wine. Certainly in these young He brews, seven hundred miles from their native place, there is a fine record of youth’s allegiance to the best. And we also find con firmation of the caption of the lesson. There is power in simple living. Instead of the orgy of drink in this country, and certain cities reported as bemoaning a temporary dearth of beverage al cohol, our people should give their attention to higher things than the satisfaction of their own ap petites. The daily round imposes burdens heavy enough without taking on a cargo of rich foods and strong drinks. The utmost sobriety is needed for men to re main in firm command of them selves under all conditions. Let us test the power of simple living.
