Navy came home last Monday on a tor nado emergency furlough, return ing to his duties the same night. He couldn't get the facts about (he awful tornado Saturday night nnd was too anxious to wait to hear from Mt. Carmel. Cpl. Barnard Smith of Camp Davis, N. C., spent several days at the home of his mother last week Cpl. Smith, many friends will be glad to hear, recently received 8 rood conduct medal at Camp Davis, N. G. Mr. and Mrs. James Boyd of Greenville were visitors of their mother, Mrs. J. W. Boyd, Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Edward Hammond and little daughter, Edna, of Elberton. Ga., Mrs. Mary G. Smith and Miss Jean Smith attended the funeral of Mr. J. J. Smith at Starr Sunday afternoon. Little Martha Jean McKinney is recovering from a recent spell, of measles. Her mother, Mrs. Hunter McKinney, is on our sick list this week with measles. Mrs. Cecil Gilliam is enjoying a pleasant visit with relatives down in Florida. Mrs. Daisey Hemminger was a visitor in Mt. Carmel Saturday afternoon. , > Dr. Lawrence L. Hester, Jr., and some friends of Charleston were week end visitors at his home here. Mime Juanita Curtis spent a pleasant week end with friends in Anderson. , Miss Julia Cade, Mrs. W. B. Sharp, Misses Florence and Susie Patterson were visitors in Ander son Tuesday. Miss Florence re mained in the hospital for a few days for treatment. Many friends are hoping she will improve rapid- y. Mr. James Miller left Tuesday morning to attend the meeting of the A. R. P. Presbytery and Synod with Dr. S. W. Reid this week. We are glad to say that Miss Annie White is better. Mr. Jim Boyd of Abbeville was a visitor here recently. Mrs. Nina Gonto from ton, N. C., is spending the week here with her mother, Mrs. B. M. Bussey. Mrs. Marie Florence from Athens, Ga., was a week end visitor here to her mother, Mrs C. H. Stone. Miss Virginia Bailey and sister Mrs. Herbert Moore, of Augusta were visitors here Saturday eve ning. Miss Lucy Bussey has returnee home, after spending the past month with relatives in Altanta. Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Howie and daughter, Miss Sarah Howie, and Sgt. and Mrs. Clarence Howie were dinner guests last Friday to Mr. E. F. Bussey and Misses Lucy and Rosalie Bussey. Annice Brooks from Green wood was a week end visitor here to Miss Etoyle Clem. Mrs. B. F. Bussey was the guost on Tuesday night to Mrs. T. ] Howie. Mr. and Mrs. Evans Bussey of Augusta made a short visit here Sunday evening to Mr. E. F. Bus sey and Misses Rosalie and Lucy Bussey. Mr. E. F. Winn have returned to San Antonio, Texas, after a 20 day furlough in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Winn, and rela tives in Augusta. Mrs. Homer Connell and little daughter, Nina, have moved into the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Wells, for the duration. Mr. Connell, who is a radio in structor at Ga. Aero Tech, is still in Augusta for the present. Mrs. Richard Baxley will return to her home in Holly Hill on Monday, after a visit in the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Lanham. Mr. and Mrs. Theo Ridlehoover and children of Augusta visited in Plum Branch Sunday afternoon. Miss Willie Mae Humphreys, Greenwood, and Miss Annie Humphreys, Woodruff, spent the past week end in the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Humphreys. Mrs. W. C. Bochman and little daughter, Lynn, of Columbia, visi ted in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Winn, the past week. Visitors in the home of Mr. E. L. CONTESTANTS FOR KING AT HIGH During the activity period this morning we selected two boys from each class as contestants for High School King. Cliff Fleming and Herman Jennings were se lected from the eleventh grade Belton Harmon and Joe Lukr White from the tenth grade Claude Huguley and Tommie For rester from the ninth grade. We studied the different kinds of flowers, trees, and poison oak. We made some cocoa to enjoy with our lunch. We sang songs as we hiked along and enjoyed thor oughly the hike. 4-H CLUBS The 4-H Clubs held their regu lar monthly meeting Monday, April 24, at the school building. Miss Bell was in charge of the girl’s club and Mr. Bonnette was in charge of the boys’ club. KING AND QUEEN CONTEST The whole Grammar School is very enthuiastic about the king and queen contest.
