Finally a portable flower bed
was rolled in to the honored guest
and concealed by the flowers was
a collection of lovely gifts,
book of recipes for a “contented
husband” was also presented the
bride-elect, and this contained
contributions by each guest.
The hostesses served a salad
course with iced tea. '

Miss Fuller was again honored
on Saturday afternoon when Miss
Sarah Louise Strom entertained
with a lovely bridge party at the
home of • her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. W. M. Strom.
Three tables were arranged for
the game, following which Miss
Fuller was given a butter knife
in her pattern of Sterling.
Assisted by her mother, Miss
Strom served a chicken salad
course with tea.
Mrs. L. N. Brown and Mrs. J.
Arch Talbert entertained with a
delightful party Tuesday after
noon in honor of Miss Mary
Fuller, bride-elect. The party was
held at the home of Mrs. Talbert,
which was beautifully decorated
with a profusion of bright au
tumn flowers.
Miss Fuller was the recipient
of a lovely trousseau gift. Her
place at the tables was marked
by a corsage of sweet-heart roses
and blue delphinium.
There were seven tables for
bridge and rook. For refresh
ments the hostesses served a
tempting salad course" with cof

The Wesleyan Guild of the lo
cal Methodist Church, was de
lightfully entertained by Miss
Myrtle Ruth Deason at her home
here on Tuesday evening of last
week. /
The devotional was led by Miss
Matilda Bell and the lesson from
the book of Jeremiah was taught
by Mrs. J. Claude Evans.
During the social hour the
hostess served iced punch and
cake.

Meets At Home Of

The Workers’ Council of the
McCormick Baptist Sunday School
met at the home ot/ Mrs. M. C
White Monday evening with Mrs.
A. C. Kehaya and Mrs. J. S
Dukes assisting.
Mrs. W. J. Talbert brought the
devotional message, using the
Subject “The Stewardship of Sub
stance.”
Reports were read by each de
partment secretary. These showed
an increase in attendance and
showed progress in each of the
six points used in" grading-. Plans
were announced for, the depart
mental ' study course which will
begin at the church on Monday
evening, October 11. Supt. J. S.
Dukes urged every teacher to be
present. Mrs. James Keown re
ported for the committee, pro
gram plans for the coming year.
During a brief social hour
punch and cookies were served
by the hostesses.

due and payable at the office of
the Town Clerk on the 1st day cf
October. 1943.
SECTION TWO. That in addi

mills for current expenses as pro
vided in section one of this ord
nance, a levy of thirty six G
mills is hereby made upon all the
real and personal property lyini
within the corporate limits of ths
Town of McCormick, the same
being levied for the purpose of
paying interest on bonds and to
retire bonds of the Town of Mc
Cormick, S. C.
SECTION THREE. The Clerk
and Treasurer shall enter said
levies and assessments upon the
books of the said Town of McCor
mick and receive said taxes, that
the said taxes shall be paid tot>»e
Clerk and Treasurer in lawful
money of the United States on or
before the 1st day of January,
1944.
SEQTION FOUR.. That on all
taxes and assessments, or any
portion thereof, charged agains;
any property or party on the
duplicate for the fiscal current
year and due the Town of McCc v -
mick, S. C., that shall not be paid
on or before the first day of Jan
uary, 1944, the Clerk shall add a
penalty of 1%, that on the 1st day
of February, 1% additional penal
ty shall be added making a total
of 2%. That on the 15th day of
March, all taxes remaining unpaia
for the previous year shall ba
placed in execution and an addi
tional penalty of 5% be add^d
and’ the Clerk shall issue his
execution directed to the Chief ct
Police who shall proceed to col
lect the past due tax together with
penalties and costs.
