Driskell was the in spiration for a lovely party at the McCormick community house on Friday afternoon with Mrs. Frank Edmunds, of St. Petersburg, Fla, as hostess. Guests were greeted at the front door by Mrs. Elmer Creighton and presented to the hostess, honoree, and Mrs. Paul Holloway who re ceived with them. Mrs. J. K. White gave a program of piano music at the conclusion of which Miss Inez Cosey gave a fitting poem in presenting Mrs. Driskell with a “shower” of beauti ful and useful gifts. Assisted by Mrs. W. E. Chamber- lain, Mrs. Harold Browne and Mrs. John Creswell, Misses Bettye Osborne, Inez Cosey, Mamye Louise Walker, Doris Chamberlain, Mary Sue Furqueron and Minnie Beth Brown, the hostess served block ice cream and individual cakes in green and white colors. STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, County Of McCormick. Notice is hereby given that a special General Election for United States Senator to fill the unex pired term of Hon. James F. Byrnes, resigned, will be held at the voting precincts fixed by law in the County aforesaid on Tues day, September 30, 1941, as order ed by the Governor. The qualifications for suffrage are as follows: Residence in the State for two years, in the County one year, in the polling precinct in which the elector offers to vote, four months, and the payment thirty days be fore any election of any poll tax then due and payable. Provided that ministers in charge of an or ganized church and teachers of public schools shall be entitled to vote after six months residence in the State, otherwise qualified. Managers of election shall re quire of every elector offering to vote at any election, before allow ing him to vote, the production of his registration certificate and proof of the payment thirty days before any election of any poll tax then due and payable. The production of a certificate or of the receipt of the officer author ized to collect such taxes, shall be conclusive proof of the payment thereof. Before the hour fixed for open ing the polls Managers and Clerks must take and subscribe to the Constitutional oath. The chair man of the Board of Managers can administer the oath to the other Managers and to the Clerk; a Notary Public must administer the oath to the Chairman. The Managers elect their Chairman and Clerk. The polls shall be opened at such voting places as shall be designated at 8 o’clock in the forenoon, and close at 4 o’clock in the afternoon of the day of elec tion, except in the Cities of Charleston and Columbia where the closing hours shall be 6 o’clock in the afternoon, and shall be held open during these hours without intermission or adjournment; and the Managers shall administer to each person offering to vote oath that he is qualified to vote at this election, according to the Con stitution of this State, and that he has not voted during this election. The Managers have the power to fill a vacancy, and if none of the Managers attend, the citizens can appoint from among the qualified voters, the Managers, who, after being duly sworn, can conduct the election. At the close of the election the Managers and Clerks must pro ceed publicly to open the ballot box and count the ballots therein, and continue without adjourn ment until the same is completed, and make a statement of the re sults for each office, and sign the same. Within three days there after the Chairman of the Board, or some one designated by the Board, must deliver to the Com missioners of Election the poll list, the box containing the ballots and written statements of the re sults of the election.
