Mountain Creek Baptist Church, Sunday, March 30th. The regular Fifth Sunday Union Meeting of the Churches of the Edgefield Association will be held with the Mountain Creek Baptist Church on Sunday., March 30th. The morning session will begin at eleven o'clock, and the afternoon session will begin at two o’clock. Dinner will be served by the Mountain Creek Church. Interest ing and helpful programs have been prepared which it is felt will be enjoyed by all who come. Richard P. McKinney, 62, for mer * member of the Greenwood police force and engineer at Gren- del Mill, died at his home there Tuesday night, March 11th, after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted at the home last Thursday after noon at 3 o’clock by his pastor, the Rev. Walter Lee Coker, of Jordan Street Baptist church, the Revs. H. E. Griffin, W. H. Clark, and Clyde M. Smith. Interment was in the McCormick cemetery at 4:45 p. m. Mr. McKinney was a native of McCormick county, son of J. L. McKinney and Mrs. Eliza Edmunds McKinney. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Essie Newby McKin ney; four daughters, Mrs. J. S. Foy, LaPorte, Ind., Mrs. W. C. Werts, Columbia, Mrs. S. O. Hamil ton and Mrs. J. E. Norris, Green wood; four brothers, William Mc- kinney. Plum Branch, George W. McKinney, Ninety Six, and Charles E., and Thomas W. McKinney, Greenwood; two sisters, Mrs. E. F. Stringer, Augusta, and Mrs. John T. Faulkner, McCormick; and nine grandchildren. x J. S. McBride Dies At Trov Joseph S. McBride, 79 years of age, died at his home at Troy Fri day after an illness of two months. Funeral services were conducted at the graveside in Long Cane 11:40 A. M.—“The Service of the J cemetery Saturday, the Rev. R. E. John B. Smith Claimed By Death John B. Smith, 64 years of age, died at his home here Friday morning, following an illness of only a few hours. Funeral services were conducted at the McCormick Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The Rev. W. M. Owings, the pastor, officiated, assisted by Dr. S. W. Reid and the Rev. Foster Speer. Interment followed in the McCormick City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were John T. Faulkner, W. T. Brown, Dennis C. Talbert, J. R. Corley, J. Frank Mattison and J. L. Bradley. Honorary pallbearers were John C. Brown, John L. Self, C. C. Mor gan, Paul J. Robinson, J. W. Cor ley, G. C. Patterson, John T. Mc Grath, and Dr. C. K. Epting. Mr. Smith was one of McCor mick’s pioneer citizens’. He was a member of the McCormick Metho dist Church and operated a mar ket here until six years ago when he retired. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Viola McCain Smith; two daughters, Mrs. T. J. Haynes of Wilmington, N. C., and Mrs. O. H. Bryan of Greenville, S. C.; one brother, W. A. Samuel Tatum Young, age 77, beloved McCormick County citizen died at his residence near Troy at seven o’clock Sunday morning fol lowing a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted from the Lower Long Cane Associate Reformed Presbyterian church Monday afternoon at four o’clock with his paster, the Rev. W. C. Kerr, in charge, assisted by Rev. Robert E. Craig and Rev. W. C., T. O.. and C. J. Young, all of Troy; Mrs. J. T. - Franklin, McCormick; Mrs. Willie D. Wiley and S. Frank Young, Greenwood;- two brothers, E. C. and J. A. Young, of Troy, and 24 grandchildren. His wife died several years ago. X PROGRAM Installation Service At Pressly Memorial Church Next Sabbath The newly elected deacon will be installed next Sabbath morn ing in the Pressly Memorial A. R. Hester of Mt. Carmel was in the first group of seniors at The Citadel who today began instructing members of the sophomore class in classroom mili tary science and tactics work. For some years Citadel seniors have taught the freshmen and sophomores practical military sub jects, but this is the first time that they have assumed the re sponsibilities of classroom instruc tions. According to Lieutenant-Colonel W. L. Roberts, professor of military science and tactics at The Citadel, it is planned to have each senior give two or three hours of class room instruction during the semester. Miss Jane Bracknell Is A Member Of Coker Glee Club Hartsville, S. C.. March 14.—Miss Jane Bracknell of Plum Branch, a senior at Coker college, is a mem- of the Coker Glee club directed by Dwight Steere which is making its fifth annual spring tour of the Southeast, March 15-21. The tour this year includes 16 concerts in 14 North Carolina and Virginia cities. Chestnut Ridge H. D. Club. Meets 27th The Chestnut Ridge H. D. Club will hold its March meeting on Thursday afternoon, March 27th, 3:00 o’clock, at Mrs. Marshall Creswell’s home on South Main Street. McAllister was called to Chappels last Friday by the very critical illness of her cousin, Mrs. Brooks Workman. Her pass ing occurred Saturday night. Miss Eliza Covin has returned home from a very pleasant visit to Dr. and Mrs. George Peel in An derson. Mrs. Gladys Bowyer of Anderson and Mr. W. L. Miller of Greenwood were visitors here Monday. Mrs. Gladys Bowyer of Ander son, Mrs. Carrie Tarrant, Mrs. W. A. Scott and Mr. Tarrant Scott attended the funeral of Miss Marie Abney at Edgefield Monday. Senator L. L. Hester and Mr. W. H. Horton attended the funeral of Mr. Sam Young at Long Cane Church Monday afternoon. Miss Beffie Hester of Anderson has been spending a few days here nursing her brother, Mr. Willie Hester. Mrs. Ben Fortson and son, Mr. Ben Fortson, of Lincolnton Co., Ga., were visitors here recently. Miss Julia Cade recently visited her aunt, Miss M. E. Sharp of Fort Benning, Ga., is expected here on the 29th instant for a short visit to Mrs. Sharp and her mother, Mrs. J. D. Cade, and family. Cadet Billy Sharp of Clemson College will be here at that time and will accompany his father back to Fort Benning to spend the Spring holidays with him.
