Horace D. Brown, Superintendent. x Mrs. J. N. Robinson Dies In Augusta Mrs. Louise Fuller Robinson, wife of James N. Robinson, died at her home in Augusta, Ga„ last Thursday night at 11:15 o’clock after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist church of Au gusta Saturday morning at 11 o’clock by the Rev. R. Paul Caudill and interment was in Westover Memorial Park. Mrs. Robinson was the daugh ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Fuller, of the Liberty Hill section of McCormick county. Before moving to Augusta many years ago she and Mr. Robinson lived at Troy where he was in the mer cantile business. Besides her husband she is sur vived by one daughter, Mrs. Robert Benton, of Augusta, a grand daughter, Miss Martha Louise Cooper, daughter of the late Mrs. Lillie Robinson Cooper, and the following brothers and sisters, Dr. R. M. Fuller and Dr. C. C. Fuller, Greenwood, Walton W. Fuller, Edgefield; Mrs. Will Byrd, Edge- field, Mrs. Felix Moorer, St. George, Mrs. W. R. Hilton, Due West, Mrs. L. R. The above Committee met With Mr. Charles at the Court House Monday afternoon at 4:00 o’clock, took the prescribed oath and will be available for registrants as soon as their questionnaires are received. The services rendered by the Committee are of course gratui- tious, and in order to divide be tween the Committee as much of the work as possible, it is sug gested that the registrants call on the Committee nearest his place of residence and if such member of the Committee is not available or if for good and sufficient reasons the registrant prefers to come to McCormick he will find some member of the Committee available at the Court House dur ing the five days which is the time allowed for the return of the questionnaires. Upon receipt of the question naires, if the registrant will read it carefully, familiarize himself with the questions to be answered, it will considerably facilitate the work. Mr. Charles will spend as much time as possible at the Com mittee’s headquarters at the Court House the five days in which questionnaires are to be filled out and returned, but if it becomes necessary for registrants to con fer with him he will be glad to see them at Greenwood, talk with them over the telephone, or meet them at McCormick. Notice To Registrants And To The Public The Selective Service Regula tions provide: Mailing a Questionnaire (Form 40) by the Local Board to the registrant is notice that the pro cess of “classification and selec tion” with regard to that regis trant has begun. Each day this Local Board will post at its office a notice of the order numbers of the registrants to whom Question naires have been mailed that day. This Local Board keeps in its office a Classification Record (Form 100). On this Classification Record will be entered the date each action is taken by this Board or the Board of Appeal concerning each registrant. The entry of this date in the Classification Record is notice of the action taken. Other .notice will be mailed to each registrant at his address last known by the Local Board, and to any other person who files a claim for him. Either the mailing of a notice or the entry in the Classification Record of the date the notice was mailed shall constitute notice to the registrant and all concerned. This is true whether or not the mailed notice is actually received by the person to whom it is ad dressed. Any person required by law to register, or any registrant, who fails to perform a duty required by the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, within the time pro vided by the law (generally 5 days), has violated the law. A person violating the law is subject to trial in the United States District Court, which may impose a fine or imprisonment, or both. The date when action was taken by the Local Board will be written in the Classification Record in each of the following instances: Whenever a duty, is to be per formed by a registrant. Whenever a period of time be gins to run within which a regis trant is to perform a duty. Whenever a period of time be gins to run within which a regis trant may claim a privilege. All registrants and other per sons concerned should examine from time to time the notices posted by the Local Board and the Classification Record. The Classification Record is open to inspection by the public during the Board’s business hours. DAN A. BELL, , Member of Local Board No. 57. 2 Floor Robinson Building, Mc Cormick, S. C. Mt. Carmel News (Written for last week.) The Second Presbytery of the A. R. P. Church convened at the church here Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p. m., with about 35 ministers and elders present. The opening sermon was preached by Rev. Mr. Alexander, the retiring moderator. After the sermon, the moderator- elect was installed, Rev. S. Gettys, pastor at Iva, S. C„ and a business session followed. The Presbytery convened Wednesday morning at 9:15 a. m. for business and. other matters. Two seminary students preached very fine trial sermons, which were favorably commented on by all present. Dr. Carson and Rev. Caldwell made talks at the con ference. About one o’clock they adjourn ed for dinner which was served in the community house by the ladies of the town and community. During the afternoon a very fine doctrinal sermon was preached by Dr. Orr of the Theological Semi nary of Due West. An invitation for the next meeting was extend ed by Rev. W. C. Kerr, pastor of the Abbeville A. R. P. Church. It was accepted. Presbytery adjourned about 4:30 o’clock. It was a very pleasant, and enjoyable meeting, and the Mt. Carmel people feel that it was a privilege and a pleasure to have this fine body of Christian men as our guests. Miss Eliza Covin accompanied her sister to Anderson Wednesday, and Thursday they spent enjoying the beautiful mountains. Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Russell of Augusta were recent visitors of Mrs. Ludie Boyd. Miss Virginia* Watson of Win- thrqp College spent a recent week end at home. Mrs. D. J. McAllister, Mrs. L. L. Hester, Mrs. W. A. Scott, Mrs. Hunter McKinney, Misses Monnie Harling, Florence and Susie Pat terson, Mrs. Ida Black, Mrs. Etta Lindley and children, Mrs. Mary Smith, Mrs. R. J. McAllister, Mrs. J. J. White, Mrs. H . O. Watson, Mrs. Herschel Fife and Mrs. W. H. Horton attended the McCormick County Council of Farm Women at Willington Saturday, and all enjoyed the meeting very much and the kind hospitality of the Willington people. Long Cane Church Sunday after noon. The many friends of Mr. Neil Merritt are glad to see him back on his territory. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. White were visiting sick friends in Anderson Sunday. Many friends of Mrs. Gladys Bowyer will regret to hear of her serious illness. We are glad to say she is better. Mrs. Tom Lindley and children spent the week end in Bordeaux with relatives. Mr. Pat Hester of the University spent the week end with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Hester. Mrs. Clara Majette, Miss Vir ginia Majette and Mrs. George Peel were recent visitors of Misses Lennie and Eliza Covin. Mrs. Ben Fortson and son, Mr. Benjamin Fortson, of Lincolnton, Ga., were also visitors here to attend Pres bytery Wednesday. On October 3rd Mrs. Hunter McKinney entertained with a party in honor of the 5th anniver sary of Martha Jean’s birthday. A number of friends enjoyed this happy occasion. After playing lots of games, the little guests were in vited into the dining room and each child was directed to find their place at the table by the place cards, and bag of pink and white mints. The dining room was daintily and beautifully deco rated with pink and white rose buds. Delicious refreshments of cake and ice cream were heartily enjoyed by the young folks, also the pleasant - hours of games. Birthday remembrances filled the heart of the wee hostess with joy for the love of her. little friends. AN ORDINANCE TO FIX THE TAX LEVY FOR THE YEAR 1946 Be it ordained by the Town Council of the Town of McCormick, South Carolina, in council assem bled, and by authority of the same. SECTION No. 1. That a tax of six mills of the assessed valuation of all real and personal property lying within the corporate limits of the Town of McCormick, S. C^ as assessed for State and County purposes, is hereby levied and assessed to meet and defray the current expenses of the Town of McCormick, S. C., for the fiscal year beginning October 1st, 1940. The said taxes shall be due and payable at the office of the Town Clerk on the First day of October, 1940 ' SECTION No. 2. That in addi tion to the above levy of six mills for current expenses as provided in section one of this ordinance, a levy of thirty eight (38) mills is hereby made upon all the real and personal property lyihg within the corporate limits of the Town of McCormick, the same being levied for the purpose of paying interest On bonds and to retire bonds of the Town of McCormick, S. C. SECTION No. 3. The Clerk and Treasurer shall enter the said levies and assessments upon the books of the said Town of McCor mick and receive the spid taxes. *hat the said taxes shall be paid to the Clerk and Treasurer in law ful money of the United States on or before the first day of Jan., 1941. SECTION No. 4. That on all taxes and assessments, or anv portion thereof, charged against any property or party on the duplicate for the fiscal current r par and due the Town of McCor- -nic.k, S. C., that shall not have been paid on or before the first day of Jan., 1941. the Town Clerk shall add a penalty of 1% for the month of Jan., on the 1st day of February, an additional nenaltv of 1% shall be added, on March 15th, 5% penalty shall be added, making a total of seven per cent. On the 15th day of March all taxes re maining unpaid for the previous year shall be placed in execution and the Town Clerk shall issue his execution directed to the Chief of Police of the Town of McCormick, and the Chief of Police shall im mediately proceed to collect the said past due taxes, together with all costs and penalties. SECTION No. 5. All ordinances or parts of ordinances incon sistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
