Little Miss Elizabeth Ann Miller of Batesburg spent the week end here with her grandmother, Mrs. J. E. Britt. Mr. J. C. Jennings of the White Town community was a visitor here Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Lillie Mae Dillashaw spent last week end in Ware Shoals with her brother, Mr. Frank Gable, and Mrs. Gable. After spending several days with his cousins, Grady and Sam my Lee Young, Master Bobby Quarles has returned to his home in White Town. Campbell and two sons, Masters Edward and Al bert. spent last week vacationing in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Earnhardt have returned from a visit to relatives at Concord, N. C. of several weeks in Selma, Ala bama. Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Smith have returned from a trip to New York and the World’s Fair. Mr. and Mrs. H G. Sanders and children and Mrs. W. W. Keown are visiting relatives in Bennetts- ville. They will spend sometime at Myrtle Beach before returning home. Mr. and Mrs. Albert LeRoy of Anderson, Miss Laura LeRoy of Clover and Mr. Milton R. LeRoy of Greenwood were visitors here Saturday afternoon. Mr. W. A. Tumblin of Troy was a visitor here one day the past week. Mr. Grover C. Sanders, who has 'been a patient at the Greenwood Hospital since last Friday evening, is reported to be getting along very nicely at this time. Rev. A. Thad. Persons announces his sermon subject at the local Baptist Church next Sunday morning at 11 o’clock as, “He That Overcometh,” and for the 8 o’clock evening service as, “The Infinite Value of Man.” He will preach at Bethany Baptist Church that afternoon at 4 o’clock. Marion Winn of Plum Branch on Tuesday after noon of last week with Mrs. J. L. Bracknell and Mrs. Ed. C. Rice as assisting hostesses. The affair honored Miss Ethel Speer of Plum Branch and Miss Agnes Todd of Due West, popular brides-elect of early fall. Block ice cream, angel cakes and mints carrying out a green and white color scheme were served by Misses Margaret Bracknell, Carolyn Rice and Roberta Broadwater, of Augusta. Delicious fruit punch was served from a beautifully appointed table overlaid with an imported lace cover and centered by an exquisite arrangement of mixed flowers. Others assisting in entertaining were Mrs. W. A. Winn, Mrs. Ed ward Gilchrist, Mrs. H. M. Free land, Mrs. Thomas Collier, Mrs. Louise Banks and Miss Virginia Freeland. The honorees were remembered by the hostesses with lovely gifts of madeira linen. About seventy guests called dur ing the receiving hours. -1X1- Dunlap-Henderson Of widespread interest is the announcement of the marriage of Miss Lula Winifred Dunlap and J. Andrew Henderson which was quietly solemnized at 8:30 Friday evening, August 9. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. A. Thad. Persons, pastor of the Mc Cormick Baptist church, at the pastorium here and only relatives and a few cjose friends witnessed the impressive rites. Mrs. Henderson is the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Dunlap of McCormick. She re ceived her education at the Green wood High School. For her wed ding she was beautiful in an en semble of navy sheer with which she wore white accessories and a corsage of brides’ roses. The groom is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Henderson of McCormick. After graduating from the McCormick High School he was engaged in Farm Exten sion Service and later was con nected with a life insurance com pany and located in Abbeville. He is now engaged in farming near McCormick where they will make their home. Harold Brown was in charge. Mrs. J. S. Strom, class president, conducted a short business session. Mrs. Mildred Nave presented Mrs. Marion P. Hamilton a hand some magazine rack as a token of appreciation from the class for the fine service she has rendered the class and church since mov ing to McCormick two years ago. Mrs. Hamilton and family will move to Edgefield next week. During the social hour Mrs. C. H. Workman conducted a spelling bee and Mrs. Elmer Creighton was awarded the prize for standing up the longest. The hostesses served delicious iced tea and sandwiches. -xx- Two Meetings Of Y. \V. A. W. A. was held at De la Howe State School, with Mrs. D. C. Talbert, who had arranged for the mem bers to go swimming, hostess. After a delightful time swimming a missionary program, conducted by Mrs. Talbert was carried out. The program was followed bv an interesting social hour at i which time a picnic lunch was enjoyed. Mrs. T. J. Sibert, Jr., was hostess’] to the Y. W. A. at its regular meeting Monday night, July 22. During the business period of the meeting the members discussed plans for assistance to the British Missionaries on foreign fields. After the devotional Mrs. Sibert presided over the program “Links in the Chain” on this occasion and talks were made by the fol lowing: “Missionary Links Across The Equator”—Mrs. Sibert, “The Link of Common Destiny” —Miss Margaret Creswell, “The Link of Prayer”—Miss Elizabeth Fooshe, “The Link of Giving”—Miss Marie Sharp ton, “The Missionary Link”—Mrs. J. E. Hutchison. After the program was con cluded. delicious fruit drink and sandwiches were served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. T. J.
