three tables were placed for bridge
and two for rook. Miss Duncan
was given a piece of crystal.
Following the games, Mrs. Dorn
served a salad course carrying out
the color scheme of pink and

entertained Thursday in her home
with a miscellaneous shower' in
the honor of Miss Ruth Edna
Duncan, whose marrigae is to take
place this month. •
The dining and living rooms
were thrown en suite and deco
rated lovely in simplicity with
gladioli and other cut garden
flowers.
The guests were greeted at the
front door by tyiss Corley, Mrs.
Melvin Derrick, Miss Nelle Fooshe
and Mrs. John T. Fooshe. Miss
Lucye Brown invited the guests
into the living room.
During the afternoon music was
played by Mrs.^Laurie M. White
and Miss Louise Bracknell render
ed two lovely songs—"In Land of
Wedding Bells” and "Just You.”
Contests were led by Mrs. Der
rick and Miss Nelle Fooshe.
Several balloons were sent to
Miss Duncan giving her directions
as to where she would find

Miss Duncan received many lovely

tions must be filed with the Com
mission’s Washington office not
later than the dates specified in
each case. Two closing dates are
given for some examinations; the ’
first date given is for receipt of
applications from States east of
Colorado; the second, for receipt
of applications from Colorado and
States westward. The salaries
given are subject to a retirement
deduction of 3 1-2 per cent.
Bilingual stenographer, $1,800 a
year, Department of State. Op
tional language groups are: Span
ish and French, Spanish and Por
tuguese, English and Portuguese.
Applicants must have reached
their eighteenth, but must not
have passed their fifty-third,
birthday. Closing dates for re

Miss Ruth Edna Duncan, bride-
elect of July 26, was honored with
miscellaneous shower at the
community house here Tuesday
afternoon.
Guests were greeted by Mrs. C.
A. Gilbert and Mrs. J. W. Fur-
queron. Receiving with these,
Miss Duncan and her mother, Mrs.
Ruth P. Duncan, were other
hostesses, Mrs. Edgar Price, Mrs.
Luther Bowick, Mrs. Jack Scruggs,
Mrs. J. L. Bradley and Miss Sallie
Price.
While Miss Duncan opened her
numerous packages, piano music
was rendered by Mrs. D. C. Tal
bert, Mrs. Chas. Fooshe, Mrs. El
mer Creighton and Mrs. J. K.
White. Miss Henrietta Gilbert
gave several vocal numbers and
Misses Mary Fuller and Martha
Johnson gave readings.
