THE RIGHT TO DISAGREE
The chief difference between
life in America and the life of the
common people in every other
nation is that no American is
compelled to agree with any other
American. The right to disagree
with other people, with the Gov
ernment, with any or all of the
Institutions which other people ad
mire and respect, is the very es
sence of human liberty.
There is no power in America
that can compel anybody to agree
with anything. So long as the
Individual does not infringe upon
the rights of other, individuals to
their own personal and private
disagreements, the Government of
the United States has no power to
compel anyone to agree to any
thing.
Fortunately, the people of the
United States as a whole are more
keenly alive to the importance of
letting people live their own lives
and think their own thoughts than
has been the case in the past.
The right to disagree is gaining
recognition by intelligent people.
At the same time, the right to at
tempt to change other people's
opinions by peaceful persuasion
has not been impared.

Dated at McCormick, S. C.,
April 10, 1940.—13t.
If I have caused one soul to sin—
If I have stopped one prayer
today—
Forgive me Lord, for I did not
mean—
To make one smile or prayer go
astray.
Perhaps I could have helped them
on—
By being glad myself; who
knows?
Perhaps some good word I could
have said—
Perhaps have made friends out
of foes.
Lord, guide my pathway straight
along—
That I may do some good al
ways—
Scatter roses in the place of
thorns—
Help me to do this every day.
When I would have an evil
thought—
Help me not to show it—
Let me hunt to find the good—
And then let others know it.
When someone’s pathway is rough
and rugged—
When they seem not to “get
along”—
Help me to single out that soul—
And put into their heart a song.
A song that will change their
being—
That they may be happy and
free—
From burdens that have long de
pressed them—
And smile and sing, that others
may see.
God meant for us all to be happy—
And put into this life a song—
And try to lighten the burdens for
others—
Day by day, as we go along.
— By Mrs. E. L. Rogers.

July Livestock Notes
In midsummer livestock need
careful attention, says County
Agent D. Austin Shelley, who
makes these timely suggestions
for July.
Animal Husbandry
1. Keep hogs grazing on green
forage. 2. Arrange to turn hogs
on com when it is in the glazed
stage. 3. Reserve some permanent
pasture to be grazed by beef cat
tle in late fall and early winter.
4. Feed the workstock three times
a day. 5. Change pastures for
livestock if possible. 6. Provide
shade and fresh water for all
classes of livestock. 7. Observe the
livestock for screwworm infesta-
*
tion and give treatment, if neces
sary.
Dairying
l.*Mow pastures frequently. 2.
Destroy breeding places for flies,
and use skimmilk-formaldehyde
poison (3 gallons of skimmilk, 1
pint of 40 per cent formalin, 1
pound of sugar) in shallow pans
to kill flies. 3. As milk production
falls off, supplement pasture with
balanced grain mixture. 4. Feed
up to two pounds of grain daily to
growing stock to maintain normal
growth. 5. Keep milk or cream
sold for manufacturing purposes
in barrel or tub of cold well or
spring water. 6. If retail milk pro
ducer with surplus at this season,
dry off all low producing cows
that are bred for fall freshening.
Poultry
1. Keep mash before laying
hens; it helps to keep their bodies
cool and stimulates egg production.
2. Reduce feed cost by culling non
layers and not by reducing feed.
3. Keep a grain feed before the
pullets and don’t start feeding a
laying mash until the birds are at
least five months old. 4. If
troubled with roup or chicken pox
in past years, vaccinate pullets
when two to four months old.

Why not be smart — do what
thousands of women have done to
get off pounds of unwanted fat.
Take a half teaspoonful of Kruschen
in a glass of hot water first thing
every morning to gently activate
liver, bowels and kidneys—cut down
your caloric intake—eat wisely and

1 Keep this plan up for 30 days.
Then weigh yourself and see if you
haven’t lost pounds of ugly fat.
Just see if this doesn’t prove to be
