He is a native of Abbeville and practiced his pro fession at McCormick for a num ber of years before removing to J Columbia where he has served as city physician, and he and his family have many friends I throughout this entire section who I will be interested in news of his i appointment to the new position. His wife is the former Miss Bessie Stilwell of McCormick. Calhoun Falls won three games last Friday night at De la Howe. The local girls were defeated by a 37-15 score. In the first quarter Calhoun Falls sent in a team of small girls who were taken out at the end of the quarter, and then sent in her regular players and they scored point after point until the end of the game. The Social Security Board has issued a pamphlet, “Old Age and Survivors Insurance for Workers and Their Families”, explaining payments to be made to wage earners reaching age 65 and to certain surviving members of families of workers who died after December 31, 1939. Martha Press- ly, Manager of the Social Security Board’s Field Office at Greenwood, S. C., announced today that copies of the new pamphlet may be obtained free at her office. It is explained in the pamphlet that workers attaining the age of 65 can now file Claims for month ly insurance payments, payable from the beginning of 1940 to qualified wage earners who have retired from regular employment. The applicant must show that he (1) has been employed in jobs covered by the Social Security Act in at least 6 calendar quarters since January 1, 1937, and (2) has earned at least $50 of wages in each of these 6 quarters.
