Mayson and family spent Monday in Green wood with their daughter, Mrs. James Keown, who was a patient in the Greenwood Hospital. The many friends of Mrs. Keown are glad to know she is able to return to her home in McCormick. Miss Cecyle Mayson is in Wash ington, D. C.. visiting her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Moody Mayson. , A large crowd attended the Christmas Pageant, given by the Sunday school and school chil dren, at Sullivan school house Sunday night. The congregation joined in singing Christmas carols. Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Winn and children visited Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Pennal and Mrs. Bell Mayson. The friends of Mrs. Mayson will be sorry to know she is ill at this time. , .. Mrs. R. T. Mayson spent the past week in Columbia with her sister Mrs. I. C. Harrison. Mrs. Harris m is'improving after being in bed with flu. The Rehoboth Missionary So ciety held its monthly meeting in the home of Mrs. J. B. Gilchrist with Mrs. L. E. Winn joint hostess, Thursday afternoon. A Christmas program was given and plans were discussed for the New Year. Mrs. T. C. Winn, Mrs. Kate Mayson, Misses Sara Katherine, Marv Lou, and Lauree Winn and Messrs. G. P. and Edgar Winn visited Mrs. R. O. Mayson. who is a patient in the Aiken Hospital. Mrs. Mayson underwent a serious operation Monday. Miss Virginia Winn snent the week with Mrs. Abrum Seigler in Belvedere. . Miss Hattie Brunson and Miss Corrie Cheatham spent the week end with Miss Brunson’s relatives in the Cleora community. The friends of Mrs. E. C. Shu- ford and Mr. H. M. Reynolds will bfe sorry to know they are on the sick list. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Reames, Miss *Trula Winn and Mr. Her- long of Aiken visited Mr. and Mrs. ,T. L. Reames. Holloway of McCormick announce the birth of a son, James Ernest, on December 14th. -txt- De la Howe Splits Double Header With Lowndesville After enjoying the prestige of ranking near the top in basket ball in this part of the state for some time, the De la Howe girls suffered a relapse during the past week and lost two games by a small margin to the Abbeville and Lowndesville teams. In the game Saturday night the girls seemed to have been taken completely bv surprise by the fast moving, hard-fighting girls’ team from Lowndesville. Nothing out standing was shown by any mem ber of the De la Howe team. The score was 23-21 Lowndesville. The De la Howe boys found no trouble in taking the boys’ game from Lowndesville. The Lowndes ville team was small and inex perienced. After the first four (4) minutes of play the De ’a Howe second team took over and finish ed the game. The score was, De la Howe 18, Lowndesville 14. A game of football was played at the McCormick Hi School field , Friday afternoon, Dec. 15. It was said to be the last for this season. In the first half of the game the Hi School made a touchdown. That was the only touchdown made in the first half. Between the halves some of the smaller football boys and other Hi School students played a “crazy game”. There were no rules for this game. In the second half the Hi School 'nade another touchdown and was given the extra point because the Town was off-sides. When the game ended the score was 13-0 in favor of the Hi School. The Hi School olavers were: L. E.—Charles Owings, L. T.—Gravdon Dukes, L. G.—J. T. Holliday, C.—Douglass Bradley, R. G.—Bob Corley, R. T.—Pal Roper, R. E.—Wis Harmon. Mrs. Mabel Brown was the at tractive guest of Mrs. George E. White, at her home on Grant Park St., Atlanta, last Thursday and Friday, and attended the premier of “Gone With the Wind* in Atlanta on the 15th. Mrs. Cecil Gilliam was a visitor in Calhoun Falls and Clinton last Sunday. Mr. Bradley Morrah of Green ville was a visitor here Sunday. Messrs. Tarrant Scott and Her man Smith were business visitors in Abbeville Monday. Mr. Feaster Mauldin was a social visitor in Lincolnton, Ga, Sunday. Mrs. Myrtle Mauldin visited relatives in McCormick this week. Mrs. John D. Cade spent several days last week visiting in State Park and Florence, S. C. Mrs. Ida M. Black was a recent visitor in Columbia, guest of her sister, Mrs. Fannie Blackwell, and family. Mr. Hollis Connor left recently to accent service in the Aviation Corps of the U. S. Army in At lanta, Ga. Mr. J. T. Faulkner of McCor mick accompanied Dr. S. W. Reid to Mt. Carmel Sabbath morning and worshiped at the A. R. P. Church. We are all so glad that Dr. Reid is able to be out again. —— w ------ Entertain For Recent Bride Honoring Mrs. Thomas D. Giles, a recent bride, Misses Martha Johnson, Ruth f£emp, Ruth Mc Kee, Elmer Holsenback and Mrs. Lucy A. Sturkey entertained on Wednesday afternoon of last week in a most delightful manner. The lovely affair was held at the home of Mrs. Sturkey and a profusion of late fall flowers and potted greens was used in the receiving rooms. Miss Johnson conducted a round of games and a contest. Music was furnished by Miss Ruth Mc Kee, during which time a "special delivery” was brought in for Mrs. Giles. This proved to be an. assortment of beautiful and useful gifts. A delicious salad course with hot coffee was served by the hostesses. McCormick Girl Receives Poultry Certificate Mamie Louise Walker, 4-H Poul try Club member of McCormick county, received a certificate from Miss Elanor Carson, Poultry Specialist, for her work during the year. Mamie Louise is a first year poultry member. She began her project with 211 chicks, and at the close of 12 weeks she had lost only 11 by disease and accident. From her record kept on her chicks she finds that the total expenses of her chicks to 12 weeks amounted to $46.00. The income from sale of broilers, broilers used at home, and the value of pullets kept amounted to $74.61. Thus leaving her with net profit of $28.61. Matilda Bell, Co. Home Dem. Census report shows that 5,93* bales of cotton were ginned in McCormick County, South Caro lina, from the crop of 1939 prior to Dec. 1, 1939. as compared with 3,720 bales for the crop of 1938.
