Mr. J. H. Abercrombie of Wood ruff and Messrs. Homer and Hoyt Abercrombie of Gray Court spent the past week end in the home of Mr. Austin Abercrombie and fam ily. Mr. Roy Edmunds of Spartan burg spent several days here last * week with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Laughlin of Winter Haven, Fla., visited here in the home of Rev. and Mrs. A. Thad. Persons one day recently. Mrs. Laughlin is a sister of Mr. Persons. Mr. R. F. Davis of Greenwood was a visitor here Monday. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Carroll of Au- ^ h gusta were visitors here a short **** while Monday. * Mr. J. L. Bracknell of Plum Branch was a visitor here one day this week. Miss Mary Ellen Edmunds from Greenville spent the week end with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Edmunds, of the Buffalo commu nity. Miss Jewel Patterson of Green ville spent the week end here with her pamts, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Patterson. Mr. E. M. Morgan of the Reho- both community was among the business visitors in town Saturday. Mr. J. L. Smith spent Monday in Atlanta buying mules and mares for his sales stables here. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Wideman of Plum Branch are spending a cou ple of weeks in Newberry with Rev. and Mrs. C. W. Brockwell. Mr. J. J. Chiles of Madison, Ga., Mr. P. R. Chiles of Greenville and Mr. B. I. Chiles of Greenwood vis ited their father, Mr. S. J. Chiles, over the week end. Mr. Chiles suf fered a stroke of paralysis New Year’s Day and his condition re mains serious. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Laye from Greenville were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Coleman. Mr. and Mrs. James Talbert from Spartanburg visited Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Coleman here the past week end. Mr. J. A. Christian, who under went an operation at an Anderson infirmary several weeks ago, has returned home and is recuperating satisfactorily. Friends of Dr. C. R. Strom re gret to learn of his return to the Veterans Hospital in Columbia. Of cordial interest is the an nouncement of the marriage of Miss Lillian Sheriff and Mr. W. C. Brown which was quietly solemniz ed at the De la Howe State School Saturday evening at 8 o’clock with the Rev. E. F. Gettys, superintend ent, officiating. Only a few freinds and relatives witnessed the im pressive ceremony. Mrs. Brown is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sher iff of Seneca, S. C. She was grad uated from the De la Howe State School in the class of 1938. Since that time she has made her home | in McCormick and as endeared ,herself to a large circle of friends. She holds a position with the H. Drucker store here. For her wedding she wore a spring model in teal blue with ac cessories of black. Mr. Brown is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Brown of Mc Cormick. Since his graduation from the McCormick High School in ’36, he has been associated with the McCormick Service Station. After a short wedding trip they are living in an apartment on low er Main street. Births Mr. and Mrs. Paul Edmunds an nounce the birth of an 8 1-2 pound son, Paul, Jr., on December 26th. Mrs. Edmunds, before her mar riage, was Miss Oculese Holliday. Rev. and Mrs. A. Thad. Persons announce the birth of a 10 1-4 pound son, Oscar Newton, on Sat urday, January 7th. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hartline announce the birth of a son, Claude Lawrence, on December 16th. Mr. and Mrs. W. Marshall Cres- well announce the birth of a son on Thursday, January 5th.
