Miss Jewel Patterson of Green ville spent the week end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Patterson. Mr. Bryan Jennings of Spartan burg spent the past week with his father, Mr. J. L. Jennings. Kentucky, where she will enroll in Bowling Green University for 1937- 1933 terms. Miss Mary Cornelia Corley of Greenville spent the week end here with her father, Mr. James W. Corley. Mr. and Mrs. P. K. Abercrombie, and son, Eldred, and daughters, Misses Jessie Lee and Elizabeth, of Laurens, also Mrs. E. H. Garrett of Greenwood, visited Mr. and Mrs. Austin Abercrombie and family re cently. • Two Brides Honored At Tea Honoring two brides of the late summer, Mrs. Lloyd Hendricks and Mrs. C. H. Lomas, and the De la Howe School faculty, Mrs. Nora P. Branch entertained with a delight ful tea at her De la Howe home on Wednesday afternoon from 4:30 until 6 o’clock. The reception room was attrac tive with beautiful arrangements of cut flowers and potted plants. Similar arrangements were used in the dining room, where Miss Olive Branch presided. The lace-covered table had for its centerpiece a low silver bowl of yellow Japanese sweetpeas and marigolds. On each end white candles burned in tall silver holders. Assisting Miss Branch in serving a variety of sandwiches and cookies with delicious iced punch were Misses Nellie and Hildreth Gettys, Miss Alice Russell and Miss Marga ret Hemminger. Mrs. Hendricks is the former Miss Mary Inman, of Greenville, and Mrs. Lomas, the former Miss Cortez Wilson, of Commerce, Ga. Ingenious women who have been turning their attention of late to practical ways to lighten household work, and even ones that may be classified as beauty aids, have formed themselves into a gadgeteer group, though their formal title is Auxiliary to the National Investors Congress. Mrs. Katherine M. Co burn of Albany, New York, has been elected president and there is a long list of other officers from Ontario to Hollywood. Among the gadgets for which they are respon sible, some having developed ideas from personal or at least feminine needs, are tiny telephone and type writer lights, an appliance to hold yarn while it is being wound, a spinach washer, another gadget that cocks asparagus intact, and a new way to use a popular beauty preparation. A hundred years hence, when the centennial box deposited by Mount Holyoke graduates will probably be opened, the college girl of the far distant future will learn something of the prognostications of the col lege girl of today. Under the leader ship of Miss Rosamond Frame of Auburndale, Massachusetts, who is community chairman of the col lege, several students wrote a com posite picture of the, 1937 class an swer to the general question, “Toward what are we heading in government?” It will, indeed, be interesting to compare fact with the prediction. Brooklyn’s only woman watch maker is Miss Gizella Pearl who has a passion for mechanics, pref erably of the delicate type, and learned all about time pieces from her father who had a clock store in Budapest, Hungary. Miss Pearl, who is just ewenty-one, thinks that women are better adapted than men to watch repairing, pro vided, of course, they know me chanics. In the little town of Friendly, West Virginia, women won every office in a recent municipal elec tion by an average vote of 40 to 15.
