Dairy Field Day
At Sandhill Station
Thursday, August 12
Clemson. Aug. 3.—Farmers and
others interested in feed crops,
oastures. and dairy cattle breeding
are invited to attend a Dairy Field
Day at the Sandhill Experiment
Station near Columbia on Thurs
day, August 12.
“Some of the features of the
dairy experimental work which will
be discussed and inspected are the
annual grazing crops which have
furnished as much as 317 calendar
days of grazing per year, the silage
crops consisting of four varieties
of sorghum planted with soybeans
in every third row, and the hay
crops”, says Prof. J. P. LaMaster,
head of the Dairy Department of
the Experiment Station.
“The permanent pasture work in
cludes one plot in which a very
promising new pasture plant for
the Sandhill region may be in
spected under grazing conditions.
“The dairy herd, which is head
ed by the famous sire of the
World’s Record Guernsey cow, will
be shown to the visitors.”
The program will start in the
Assembly Hall at 11:00 o’clock with
brief discussions of the experimen
tal work, which will be followed by
a lunch period. Those who do not
bring lunches may secure a light
inexpensive plate lunch to be serv
ed by the ladies of the Dentsville
Grange.
The afternoon will be devoted to
in inspection study of the pas
tures, the feed crops and the dairy
herd.
