Gettys, Superintendent of De la Howe State School, will preach at the McCormick Baptist Church Sunday morning. May 16, at 11 o’clock. The Rev. A. Thad Persons, pastor, is attending the Southern Baptist Convention at New Orleans, Louisiana. He is expected to return to McCormick May 18. Master Carl Smith, and Mrs. John G. McKie, Jr., of Brooklyn, N. Y., are spend ing a fe# days with relatives at Meriwether. Mrs. Douglass Haggard, Mrs. S. Leslie Britt and children spent Friday in Augusta. Mr. M. L. Gibert has returned from the Anderson County hos pital and is recuperating satisfac torily at his home here. Mr. and Airs. J. W. Adams and son, John, Jr., of Gastonia, N. C., accompanied by the latter’s moth er and sister, Mrs. Grimes and Miss Thelma Grimes of Dav/son, Ga., spent Sunday with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Adams, of Meriwether. Mr. and Mrs. Ludlow C. Adams and baby spent a few hours Sun day afternoon in the home of the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Adams, at Meriwether, en route from Claxton, Ga., to their home in Chester, S. C. Miss Lake Middleton of Colum bia, S. C., spent the past week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Middleton, at Clarks Hill. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Orien H. Bryan of Green wood and Mr. James Talbert spent Sunday in Darlington with Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Haynes. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Anderson, Jr., had as their guests the past week end Mr. and Airs. Tom Anderson, Sr., of Ninety-Six. Air. and Mrs. Rembert Truluck and children of Spartanburg are visiting Airs. Truluck’s parents, Capt. and Mrs. Jack Scruggs. Mr. and Airs. David Garrison of Woodviile spent the week end hero with Mrs. Garrison’s aunt, Mrs. Mary Bell. Miss Julia Brown, who is teach ing in Whtimire, spent the week end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar B. Brown. Hon. George Bell Timmerman or Batesburg, Chairman of the South Carolina Highway Commission, was a visitor in McCormick today. \ Sou th-T hompson Of interest to a wide circle of friends is the announcement of the marriage of Aliss Lettie Mae South and Homer Thompson. The ceremony was performed by Judge Robert J. Cartledge at his home in Greenwood on April 7, 1937, in the presence of a few close friends of the young couple. Mrs. Thompson is the daughter of Mrs. R. F. South of Bordeaux and the late Mr. South. For the past year she has been connected with one of the governmental agencies in AIcCormick. Mr. Thompson is a native of Ab beville where he and his bride are making their home. XXI Mesdames Cogbum And Hall Are Hostesses For Mrs. O. H. Bryan r i Air. and Airs. J. B. Harmon, Jr., and J. Fuller of Greenwood, and daughter, Mrs. Scott Rigby, of Manning spent Tuesday here with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Anderson, Jr. Mr. and Airs. Horace Daughtry of Cincinnati are spending some time here with the latter’s mother, Mrs. S. L. Edmunds. Miss Mattie Eliza Bussey of Greenville spent Sunday here with her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Bussey, and Airs. J. J. Dorn. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Rankin and sons, Billy Rankin, of Anderson, Eugene Rankin of Belton; Mr. and Airs. E. H. Huguley and son, Ellis Jr., of Greenville spent Sunday here with Mrs. W. G. Huguley. The Rev. and Airs. N. G. A lovely compliment to Mrs. Orien Howard Bryan, who before her marriage on April 17 was AGss Mary Louise Smith, of AIcCormick, was a shower given recently by Mrs. J. P. Cogburn and Mrs. Odell Hall in the home of Mrs. T. S. Hail, Sr., in the Woodlawn section. The lovely bride was becomingly attired in a dress of rose crepe with white accessories and she wore a corsage of yellow roses tied with green satin ribbons. Red and white roses intermingled with white narcissus were used in artistic profusion throughout the reception rooms. Mrs. Cogburn presided at the register. Mrs. Hall greeted the guests at the door and introduced them to the bride. Several games and contests were enjoyed, Atiss Mary Johnson and Mrs. Earle Burnett winning prizes, which they presented to the bride. Special features of the entertain ment were readings given by little Aliss Jean Johnson and Alaster Ad- ron Cogburn. After the games, the hostesses were summoned to the door by a loud knock. Upon answering they were greeted by Adron Cogbum, playing the role of an express de livery boy, who called out in a loud voice, “I have an express package for Mrs. Orien Howard Bryan.” The caller being invited into the room, delivered a large box to the bride, which she opened and found filled with many lovely gifts. A salad course was served, Mrs. Cogburn and Airs. Hall being as sisted in serving by Mrs. Joe Shaf fer, Mrs. E. P. Bryan, Sr., and Mrs. C. W. Hall. Miniature cups made of green Ju-Ju Guest of Appleton, S. C. Week end visitors with Miss Nan Workman were Aliss Edna Baggott, Raleigh, N. C.; Aliss Roberta High-, tower, Blackville, S. C., and Aliss and white candies, emphasing the color motif adorned the plates and served as clever favors. Ah-, and Mrs. William Chambers, Jr., of Bessemer City, N.
