the life.” These words are read, ap
propriately enough, at funeral ser
vices, but they are meant more for
the living than for the dead. They
make it clear that we now, through
the living Christ, can live as im
mortal beings.
But eternal Ife, as we find it pro
claimed in the New Testament, and
in the Christian teaching through
the ages, is not a free gift benevo
lently bestowed upon all. You and I
must deserve it. “Lay hold on eter
nal life,” wrote Paul to his beloved
Timothy. Immortality, you see, is
something to be grarped. We prove
ourselves worthy of it. Our
thoughts, deeds, purposes and
fruits must be such as to make us
fit candidates for the New Jerusa
lem.

the Weeks Forestry Act (36 Stat.
961) certain lands in McCormick
County, South Carolina, consisting
of the tract hereinabove set forth,

two hundred and twenty-one (2211
acres, more or less, and being fully
described by survey made by the
Forest Service of the United States,
which said survey and description
are fully set out in the application
filed by the United States Attorney
in the office of the Clerk of the
United States District Court, at
Greenville, South Carolina, and
that you may be the owner, or sup
posed owner thereof, or have some
right, title, or interest therein, or
irf some part thereof. Wherefore,
you are required to come forward
on the 9th day of March, A. D.,
1937, at three o’clock, p. m., at the
United States District Court to be
held at Rock Hill, South Carolina,
and file objections, if any you have,
to the proposed purchase of said
lands, otherwise a judgment will
be entered against you. The infant
defendants and persons under any
other legal disability hereinabove
named are further notified that
the order of court provides that
unless they procure the appoint
ment of a guardian ad litem to
represent them in said proceeding
within twenty days after personal
service of the said notice upon
them, or in case service is made
upon them by publication, within
twenty days after the said service
has been completed, the court, up
