Creswell and family the past week were Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Friddle and children, Miss Mary, Master Dewey, Jr., and Frank, of Greenville, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Reed and daughter, Miss Dessie Reed, of Anderson, Mrs. Annie Dansby and Miss Frances Hensley, Mr. and Mrs. S. O. Smith and Mr. Clifton Dans by of Augusta, Ga. Miss Blanche Middleton of Clarks Hill has returned from Massanetta Springs, Va., where she spent a most pleasant summer. Mrs. E. F. Poole and two nieces, little Misses Lillian and Juanita Byrd, of Athens, Ga., spent the past week end with Mrs. Poole’s sister, Mrs. D. T. LaGroon and family of near town. Mrs. Dave Garrison of Woodville was the week end visitor of Miss Martha Bell. Dr. R. G. Killingsworth, S. F. and Miss Etliel Killingsworth spent several days last week in Savannah with Mr. and Mrs. Paul H. Smith and at Savannah Beach. Mr. Robert H. Middleton, Jr., who has been working in Columbia for the past 18 months, has ac cepted a responsible position in Vicksburg, Miss., and reported for duty on Sept. 1st. Mr. A. C. Bradshaw of Parksville was a visitor here Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. S. David Talbert of New York City are spending sev eral days in the home of his father, Mr. S. H. Talbert, of the Buffalo community. Mr. E. S. Strom of Columbia visited relatives in and near Mc Cormick last Thursday and Friday. Bill Killingsworth returned to McCormick Tuesday after a month’s encampment at Fort Moultrie. Mrs. T. H. Reeder Honored At Party By Miss Dorn One of the loveliest parses of the season was given Thursday after noon, Aug. 27th, when Miss Marion Dorn entertained in honor of her cousin. Mrs. Thomas H. Reeder, of Atlanta, who was guest of her mother, Mrs. J. J. Dom, here that' week. The living room, where four tables were arranged for bridge, was attractive with early fall flow ers arranged in low bowls. The floating prize, which added interest to the’game, finally went to Miss Martha Bell. High score award went to Mrs. R. D. Sylves ter of Richlands, N. C., who has been the guest of her parents, Judge and Mrs. H. C. Walker, for several weeks, and consolation was awarded Miss Margaret Patterson. Mrs. Reeder received a handsome set of tea napkins. Assisted by her mother, Mrs. Porter C. Dorn, the hostess served a salad course with iced tea to the following guests: Mrs. Reeder, Mrs. Thos. R. Me A bee, Miss Birdie V/alker, Mrs. R. D. Traylor returned to her home here last Thursday from the Greenwood Hospital, where she underwent an operation for ap pendicitis about two weeks ago. and continues to improve satis factorily. Dr. and Mrs. W. W. Sibert of Sumter are spending the week here with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. John L. Peurifoy and children have returned to their home in Hamilton, Ohio, after a week’s visit to Mrs. Peurifoy’s father, Mr. Albert Gibert, of Wil- lington. Dr. and Mrs. C. K. Epting were recent visitors to relatives at New berry. Mr. Ansel Talbert of Laurens is here on a visit to his aunt, Mrs. Carrie Talbert. Miss Mary Bradley of Ninety Six is visiting here in the home of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Jack L. Bradley. Miss Addie Lee Cartledge of near Parksville was a visitor here Wed nesday. Mr. H. E. Freeland of the Re- hoboth section was a visitor here Saturday. Mr. J. L. Sibert of Sumter spent Sunday here with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Schumpert announce the birth of a son, Don ald Wayne, on August the 30, 1936. The Sanitary Barber Shop | McCORMICK, S. C. A large number of the Collier family gathered in a reunion at the old Collier home near .Plum Branch on Sunday, August 30th. The occasion wus the 73rd birth day of Mr. G. N. Collier, and Mr. and Mrs. T. K. Collier were host and hostess. The group enjoyed reminiscenc ing in conversation about the porches and yard until the noon hour when all were invited into the spacious hall where a long table was loaded with all kinds of good things to eat. After dinner speech es expressing sentiments and as sociations of the old homestead were made by Mr. G. N. Collier, Mrs. Hattie Collier, and Mr. D. Pierce McCain, the three oldest members of the generations of Col liers now living. W. M. Freeland, McCormick County Representative elect, also made a short talk, as also did Dacus P. McCain of Mc Cormick. AAA Payments In m McCormick Conn tv j Columbia, Sept. 1.—Rental and benefit payments made by the Ag ricultural Adjustment Administra tion in McCormick County during the three year period, beginning May 12, 1933 through May 31, 1936, amounted to $174,960.31, according to information received today by Lawrence M. Pinckney, State Di rector for the National Emergency Council. Of this amount, over the three- year period, the following was paic for: Cotton, $171,192.41; corn and hogs, $3,767.90. The total amount of funds releas ed in South Carolina as a whole since inception of the triple “A” program, is $22,342,953.03. Of this amount South Carolina farmers received $18,531,823.05 for cotton; $3,223,561.37 for tobacco; $573,029.- 24 for corn-hogs, and $14,539.37 foi peanuts, the records show. Total payments throughout the Lnited States toward the triple “A” program for the three years, according to most recent figures, is $1,223,104,187.85. This was an increase in the entire country for the five months, beginning Dec. 31, 1935, and ended May 31. 1936, of $114,781,317.55.
