Human Effects
Of Program Are
Vital, Says Cobb
The human effects of the Agri-
culUral Conservation Program are
mo re vital than the conservation
of laid, according to Cully A. Cobb,
director of the Program for the
Southern Region.
In dscussing the purpose of the
Soil Coiservation and Domestic Al
lotment Act, Cobb said the accom-
plishmeit of those purposes would
mean improved income
farmers of the South. “We are
working not merely with land; we
arc workng with people who live
on the laid and who get their in
come fron it.”
Cobb pointed out that conserving
and buildiig land rather than rob
bing it and destroying it would lead
to “the baanced type of farming
we have Uked about so long”
Other longtime effects of such r
program wculd be improved liv
ing conditiois on the farm, Jm
proved schoos, improved churches,
and improved and better communi
ties in which o live, he said.
“Farmers nust at no time lose
sight of the public or national wel
fare”, Cobb sad. “in carrying out
the provisions of the Agricultural
Conservation Pogram, agriculture
is contributing to the interest of
1 national welfare if w e are to have
a balanced abuniance of food and
fibers in the future, we must con
serve our soil resiurces”, Cobb said.

Clemson, June 13.—Sixteen percent
of the class of 1936 which was grad

were former 4-H club members,
says Dan Lewis, state boys’ club
agent, asserting that 4-H club work
has help*# many a farm boy to a
better educational and vocational
training. In fact, it Is not uncom
mon, he states, for a former 4-HT

ed him to determine his life work.
Mr. Lewis has compiled figures
from his records showing that the
17 former 4-H club members in the
Clemson class of 1936 completed

tions with a value of $16,155.30 and'
a profit of $7,275.55, individual
profits ranging as high as $1,777:1?.
It would seem, therefore, that some'
of these former clubsters had made
