Golden Text: Psalm 103:13 In the sublime parable of the prodigal son is contained both the pith and the marrow of the gos pel teaching. Here one finds re vealed, in memorable pictures, the doctrines of sin, retribution, re pentance, faith, forgiveness, and salvation through God’s fatherly gracer The whole meaning of con duct and of religion is epitomized in this immortal story. Consider the central figure, the prodigal. Observe that he was a high-spirited lad who felt the lure of the highway leading cityward But, alas, his eagerness to trod the open road led to his ruin. Thet degradation of this attract ive lad anight be summed up by saying that he lost his power of reverence. He ceased not only to revere God, but also to revere his fellows. Finally, he lost faith in himself. This was fatal. It has been said that the prodi gal did not Tefcurn to his home with the highest motives, that hun ger and want alone impelled him. But I detect the right spirit in him. Note his prayer, “Make me as one of thpr hired servants.” No longer does se say “Give me,” the prayer of d childish, self-centered soul,, but “Make me,” a prayer of maturity, a prdyer for character. And note his remorse. He does not crave the privileges of a son, but is willing to be a servant, a hireling, a hum ble wage-earner at the bottom of the ladder. There is always hope for a lad like that! The father’s welcome has been well called “the noblest picture of redeeming grace ever created.” See ing the son “still a long way off,” the father runs to him with un speakable pity, embracing him, and kissing him tenderly. Believing in the boy he waited for his return patiently and lovingly. What overwhelming cordiality! The ring, a token of honour, the shoes, an emblem of freedom, and the dinner, with its fatted calf, all betoken extreme joy. Here we have a symbol of the joy of God when a soul turns from darkness to light. Wideman .50 Clemson, April 4.—All three high scoring individual placings in live stock judging were won by South Carolina 4-H club members in com petition with Georgia clubsters at the recent Savannah Fat Stock Show, says Leon Clayton, assistant boys’ club agent. Sam Garwood of Sumter, W. S. Black of Allendale, and Tommy Peeples of Hampton placed first, second, and third re spectively, and Sam Garwood won the additional honor and a silver loving cup in placing first in a showman’s contest, clubsters and adults competing.
