SOUTH CAROLiNA Thursday, December 12, 1935 34 Enumerators To Take Census In Third District NO INFORMATION, HOWEVER, AS TO HOW WORKERS WILL BE CHOSEN ANDERSON, Dec. 6.—Thirty-four enumerators will be used in the business census to be conducted in the third district early next year, but Congressman John C. Taylor has received no information as to the selection of these enumerators, he said yesterday. Hugh H. Rus sell was Tuesday appointed by Sec retary Dan Roper as supervisor of \he district. Mr. Russell said yesterday that he had received notification of his appointment, but that he had no other information concerning the census. The location of the district office, he said, will be in Anderson, but a place has not yet been se lected. Z. W. Meeks, secretary to Con gressman Taylor, said that it was the original intention of the gov ernment agency to use WPA labor on the project, but that later in formation from Washington indi cated that the enumerators might be selected through competitive examination. Publicity will be giv en when a decision is reached. A total of ten enumerators have been assigned to Anderson with other counties in the district get ting the following number: Abbe ville, two; Edgefield, three; Green wood, four; McCormick, one; New berry, four; Oconee, three; Pickens, four, and Saluda, three. Mr. Russell was county supervisor of the farm census taken early this year. The business census will show the pickup in business activity and democratic leaders will have offi cial figures to point to. Secretary Roper said the business men of the country “want complete and up-to-date data concerning the activities of American business.” He added: “It is the purpose of this census to present a true pic ture of the state of business for the calendar year 1935. It will also make available a much needed basis of comparison with conditions reported in 1929 and 1935.” Dance To Be Given Here Friday, Dee. 27 The McCormick Dance Club will sponsor a dance at the community house here on Friday night, De cember 27th, which is expected to be an unusually good dance- and will be attended by many people from in and out of town. Music will be furnished by Hotel Rich mond Orchestra, of Augusta, Ga., which previously played for a num ber of good dances here.
