Baptist Women Hold
Missionary Meetings
The Neil Young Circle of the lo
cal Baptist Church held a most de
lightful meeting Wednesday after
noon of last week at the home of
Mrs. W. M. Strom. The Bible study
was conducted by the circle leader,
Mrs. M. C. White. She asked ques
tions and discussed very fully the
book of Esther.
Mrs. G. C. Patterson, president
of the W. M. U., gave a study of
the subject “Stewardship.” During
the social hour delicious iced tea
and sandwiches were served by the
hostess, assisted by Misses Nylena
and Sara Louise Strom.
With the leader, Mrs. J. W. Fur-
queron in charge, the Ann Watson
Circle of the Baptist Church met
Wednesday afternoon of last week
at the home of Mrs. W. J. Connor.
The devotional was conducted by
Mrs. Connor, and the study for the
afternoon, “Missions and New
Testament Scripture,” was con
ducted by Mrs. Furqueron. Delicious
iced tea and sandwiches were serv
ed by the hostess.

Route No. 10 Closed
For Resurfacing;
The Greenwood office of the
State Highway Department an
nounced yesterday that Route No.
10 between Greenwood and McCor
mick had been closed for resurfac
ing from Salak to the McCormick
county line.
Detours have been provided for
local traffic, but the highway of
fice advises through traffic to Mc
Cormick to use the Dixie Highway,
No. 25, for a distance of 21 miles
where it intersects with Route 43
to McCormick, and from McCor
mick to Greenwood over Route No.
43 and the Dixie Highway, No. 25.
The No. 43-25, route is 11 miles
further but is an all-paved road
without detours.

of Greenwood will sympathize with
him in the death of his father, L.
A. Gallant, who died at his home
on Church street in Charlotte, N.
C., last Friday night after a brief
illness. He was 71 years of age.
For a number of years Mr. Gal
lant lived in Providence township
in Mecklenburg county before re
moving to Charlotte and he was
recognized as a leading citizen. He
was an active member of the Sec
ond Presbyterian church of Char
lotte.
Mr. Gallant is survived by his
widow, Mrs. Margaret Gallant, four
sons, Erskine Gallant, of Anderson;
Paul M. Gallant, of Greenwood; Dr.
Robert M. Gallant, of Charlotte,
and James Gallant, of Athens, Ga.;
four daughters, Misses Margaret
and Evelyn Gallant, of Charlotte,
Mrs. Guy Kennedy, of Clearwater,
Fla., and Mrs. Fred Eidt, of Winter
Haven, Fla.
