Davis, administrator of the Agricultural Adjustment Act. “A long-view policy for agricul ture cannot passively accept the present limited purchasing power for food and fibre products of large numbers of our people, nor con ceive future production on that basis. Rather it must contemplate with the nation as a whole a more abundant economy for all groups”, the report states. “A long-view policy for agricul ture will actively seek to remove barriers that now constrict inter national trade.” The report also pointed out that through a long-view policy, agri culture “will aim to put its own lands in better order, and tie in the various adjustment programs with long-time objectives of efficient land use. Taking account of past mistakes—misguided settlement, too-intensive cultivation, soil ero sion and depletion, over production, over grazing, and abuse of the pub lic domain—a corrective program through a broad policy of land use based on national welfare is indi cated.” The nation’s need for agricul tural products is the basis for the formation of a policy of land use, the report stated. “Agriculture”, it said, “should supply enough prod ucts to satisfy the requirements of domestic consumption and to meet the demand of an export market. The policy should avoid excessive wastes incident to over production.” -Time View For I fellow motorist with all thy ability. The following recipe for an easy hot dish from summer sausage is suggested by Inez S. Willson, home economist: Sausage And Corn Fritters 1 cup summer sausage, chopped 1 small can whole-kernel com 1 cup flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 2 eggs - Salt Chop sausage finely. Drain the corn and add the dry ingredients which have been sifted together. Add the sausage and beaten egg yolks. Mix thoroughly. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites and drop by the spoonful into hot lard. Let fry until a golden brown and serve immediately. v Deaths Higher In Two States CAROLINAS SHOW INCREASE IN TRAFFIC FATALITIES; DE CREASE IN NATION Style in commercial transporta tion is being emphasized more and more, according to J. T. McGrath, of McGrath Motor Co., local Ford dealers, and the 1935 Ford V-8 commercial cars and trucks are an outstanding example of this trend, he points out. “The new Ford V-8 sedan deliv ery and the panel delivery cars are especially attractive,” Mr. Mc Grath says. “They are cars with which the smartest store can add to its prestige. However, die pop ularity of the new Ford V-8 com mercial car types is not limited to proprietors of exclusive shops. The prices are so low that they are in demand throughout a wide range of businesses and industries. “Delivery equipment is a travel ing billboard and it should always reflect the prestige of the company or individual using it. Trade of the so-called smart shop would be lost if deliveries were made in old and battered automotive equipment, and the prestige of the concern would soon be lost. No matter what the nature of the business, good-looking delivery equipment increases its standing with its cus tomers. “One of the most popular of the 1935 Ford commercial creations is the cab ‘pick-up’. This Ford V-8 is a small truck which combines attractive appearance with utility and economy. It has won great favor with ranchers and it has a very definite place in industry. “The ‘pick-up’ model, like the Ford V-8 commercial car, has the same 123-inch spring base as the passenger car. This permits in creased load space and re-distribu tion of weight, yet all the ease of handling is retained with the con tinuance of the 112-inch wheel base. Current Ford Sunday Evening Hour Series Closes June 30 CHARLOTTE, June 10.—Although traffic fatalities for the nation during the first quarter of 1935 3how a decrease ever the number for the same period of 1934, deaths in the Carolinas this year show an increase, according to the safety division of the Carolina Motor Club. For the four months ending May 1 there were 450 traffic deaths in North and South Carolina compar ed with 371 in 1934—an increase of 79. Increase in the size of the North Cavclina State Highway patrol to 121 men, effective July 1 and the statewide driver’s license law which "'■'-s into effect November 1 are ex pected to sharply curb fatalities in ..th Carolina during the last half r the year. Ten commandments for safe drivers are listed by the Carolina Voter club as follows: Thou shall drive thy car on the rnht hand side of the road with no object before thee closer than 50 feet. Thou shall sound thy horn and make sure that the vehicle operator in front hears the warning signal before attempting to pass. The final broad cast before the summer intermis sion will be heard from 9 to 1C o’clcck, Eastern Daylight Savinf Time, over a coast-to-coast net work of the Columbia Broadcasting System. The series, which has presented the Ford Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, under Victor Kolar, with ntcrnationally known guest artists each Sunday, will be renew 3d on September 20, when another series if thirty-nine broadcasts again will '•3 inaugurated over the same net work. Mr. Ford’s only other personal gppearance during the series was in the opening broadcast on October 5. At that time he outlined the ourposes of the concerts. Because one of the policies con trolling the concerts has been that 'f granting recognition to out standing American talent, the 3hcice of Mr. Jagel as guest artist of the concluding broadcast is ap propriate. Mr. Jagel was born in Brooklyn. In some respects his career parallels an Alger story. Ambitious from youth to become a great singer, lack of funds threat 1 - ened to delay his progress until a wealthy business man heard him sing as a church soloist and. offered President Roosevelt is the fourth Harvard graduate to reach the White House. No other college has provided so many chief executives, though William and Mary lists- three presidents among its alumni. With the present immigration laws, the department of agricul ture estimates the population of the- United States will reach 150,000,000' by 1960.
