Columbia, May 10.—No changes will be made in state adopted pri- dicitis at the Greenwood Hospital | mary and grammar school text books used in the public schools of South Carolina until after another school year. The state board of education de cided today to avoid the “expense and trouble” of adopting or chang ing the books at this time. The board voted instead to renew the present contracts with book publishers for another year at “the same or lower prices.” The contracts will expire June 30. Under the law, the board, if it had desired, could have changed as many as 25 per cent of the books this year. All the public schools in the state except those in the cities of Green ville and Charleston are effected by the board’s actions. The two cities make their own textbooks arrange ments. James H. Hope, state superinten dent of education and secretary of the board, said considerable “ex pense and trouble” would be saved by postponing the adoption. He said he felt sure there would be no Mrs. W.
