In accordance with the proTi-
sions of an ordinance of the Town
of McCorpick, a Primary Election
will be held on the Second Tues
day in February, 1934, (being the
13th day of February), at the Court
House in said Town of McCormick
for the purpose of nominating can
didates ,for the office of Mayor and
six Aldermen for the said ^Town of
McCormick, S. C., for the term
commencing April 6th, T 1934, and
said terms of office to be fOr two
years, and .also for the purpose of
hominating a candidate for the
office of. Commissioner of Public
Works of the Town of McCormick
for the. term commencing April 6th,
1934, to succeed Commissioner O. J.
Sanders, Jr., whose term of office
expires on said date, said Commis
sioner of Public .Works to be elect
ed for a term of two years.

Joseph Holloway and Dr. R. O.
Killingsworth are appointed Man
agers of said Primary Election. A
second Primary will be held on
Tuesday, February 27th, 1934, if
same shall be necessary. Managers
of said election shall open the poll3
at 8 o’clock a. m., and close them
at 4 o’clock p. m.
All ' candidates* for the above
named offices of the Town of Mc
Cormick shall file with the Clerk
of the said Town a pledge in writ-
' ing to abide' the results of the Pri
mary and to support the nominees
thereof. All candidates for Mayor
shall at the time of filing said
pledge pay an assessment of $5.00
each; all candidates for Aldermen

A substantial increase in the mar
ket price of Home Owners Loan
Corporation bonds, following the
opening of . congress recently, will
result- in great benefit to home
owners seeking loans, according to
Joseph Murray, .local attorney, who
represents the corporation here. In
a statement recently Mr. Murray
said:

scope, but it is now functioning
smoothly. Home owners who have
applied for relief, and v/ho are able
to come within the requirements
cf the law, should not have to wait
longer for final approval and con
summation of their loans.
“The purpose of the corporation
or bank is to relieve home owners
who are in distress with their
mortgages] It is not intended to
refinance mortgage debts > which
are in good standing. The spirit
and purpose of the law are in
thorough harmony with the recov
ery plans inaugurated by President
Roosevelt, and already, throughout
the country, thousands of homes
have been saved and the harrassed
owners have been enabled to get
on their feet with government aid

tor values are concerned, is without
question the home of the motor
car industry—Detroit. The Decem
ber showing oi\ retail sales in De
troit is therefore of outstanding
importance. Again Ford leads all
other makes by a wide margin,
according to official reports just
received here. The figures present
ed show 1,164 sales for Ford, and
a total of 284 sales for the two
other leading makes in the low
price field.
Ford volume' in December and
January is the greatest in five
years, officials state. In Wayne
County, Michigan (the county in
which Detroit is located), a total
of 1,056 Ford passenger cars were
registered in De9ember, 1933, as
’gainst 333 registered in the same
month of the previous year — an
increase of over 214 per cent, it
was revealed here recently.
