The sirene will sound a short blast at 12 o’clock promptly every day during this coming week, beginning on Monday. This sirene sound is not for fire, but to remind everyone who hears it then that a special meeting is being held at the Meth odist Church. The pastor asks that everyone on hearing this sound stop for a moment and remember the meeting. The church is hoping for a revival all over our town. Teachers’ Money Ready To Move PAYMENT OP FIRST STATE AID SOON TO BE MADE Mrs. M. L. Oibert and son, James, Mrs. J. O. Patterson, Mrs. J. W. Furqueron and Mrs. Sue Connor were shopping in Greenwood Mon day. The State, Oct. 3. State finances are in such condi tion that the payment of something former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Huguley and son, Ellis, Jr., of Greenville rfjpent the past week end here with the like $400,000 in state aid to schools now merely awaits the list of allot ments for the various counties, ac cording to A. J. Beattie, comptrol ler general. The amount of money to be sent each county is to be listed by the state department of education, and when these/ fi gures are available, checks will go to cover the amount to the county treasurer, who in turn will see that it reaches the teachers. Some of the schools are due to make their first fall payment on teachers’ salaries October 7 and some October 13. The money, now ready to be sent out, is the state’s portion of state aid to schools, and, under the new law which replaced the old 6-0-1 school law, is to be paid monthly. Collections have been sufficient to meet this first pay ment, Mr. Beattie said yesterday. Under the old school law, the bulk of the state aid was paid ,in the spring, tinder the new la,w, the money is paid monthly—that is* monthly for a period of six months, beginning in October. * ■ . .1X1-- ... ■. m V Mr.IM. Mr. George Nelson and son, Joe, of Spartanburg spent Sunday here with Mr. Nelson’s mother, Mrs. Louise Nelson. Lincoln (Ga.) Journal, Sept. Although not coming une: the death of yr. J. M. Ni his home here late Tuesday ight occasioned widespread sorrow and regret to his numerous friends.! Mr. Nash had been 111 for several months. Mr. Nash was a man of splendid principles and was Held in high es teem by numerous friends. He was 57 years of age. ) Surviving him are his widow and five children: Mrs. M. B. Prince, J^r., Peachland, N. C.;r Miss Iris N: and Miss Maggie Nash, of Linco ton; two sons: Mr. J. S. N; Faukef Ark., and Mr. George Lei nard Nash of Quantico, Va. He also survived by. one sister, Maggie Lou Groves, of Brownsville Texas, and one brother, Mr. Manri Nash, of Modoc, S. C. The funeral service was conduct ed from the home Thursday mom- Mr. George Carroll and son, Man ning, called to see Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Goff Saturday, and little Licille Goff returned home with them for a couple of weeks’ stay. Mr. Lee Willis and son, Robert, of Greenville spent Sunday near tQwn with his father, Mr. C. W. Willis. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Rankin and son, Billy, of Anderson were guests of her nerents, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Huguley, Sunday. Messrs. R. L. Faulkner, P. G. Fposhe and H. N. Coleman were business visitors, in Columbia Mon day and Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. M. Cox and little .daughter, Marie,. of Belton were recent visitors in the home of Dr. and Mrs. C. R. Strom. Mrs. Cox is pleasantly remembered here as Miss Vernon Peery, former member of the local high school faculty. Mr. P. K. Abercrombie, Mr.' and Mrs. Wilma Abercrombie and little son, Billy, Mr. Eldred Abercrombie and Miss Jessie Lee Abercrombie of Laurens spent Sunday here with the former’s brother, Mr. Austin Abercrombie. ing,.Dr. W.
