HAY WITHOUT THE SUN
Ti}ere is an adage, “Make hay
while the sun shines,” which may
^ ''oh losp much of its point.
After many experiments an arti
ficial hay dryer has been perfected
and its practicality already has
been proved. The first one in New
York state is now in operation ori a
farm of nearly 1,000 acres near
'Saratoga.

Urging gardeners to keep garden
crops growing and not let them suf
fer for lack of sufficient plant
food, A. E. Schilletter, extension
horticulturist, suggests that most
vegetables now can be much bene-
fitted by applications of sulphate
of ammonia or nitrate of soda
scattered three to five inches from
the base of plants and covered with
shallow cultivation.
Other September suggestions
from Mr. Schilletter are:
Vegetable seed left over from the
spring planting may be used in the
fan.
Are you growing your own cab
bage plants for early spring set
ting? Seed should be sown the
last of September or early October.
Parsnips, salsify, carrots, and
fall beets can be wintered where
grown and dug as needed. Later in

“Hawkeye O’Brien” of the Open
Eye Detective Agency. Mr. Shirley
has very humorous lines and puts
them over in a manner familiar to
all the people of Greenwood who
have seen him in former presenta
tions.
Much of the comedy of the show
will be furnished by the dignified
frozen-faced butler, superbly play
ed by Mr. Henry Higgins and Marie
’ the flapperish maid, played by Mrs.
Pete Clark. These two form a team
impossible to beat.

well under way. This part of the
show appeals to any audience. One
hundred little kiddies in their
“nighties” pantomine while Mrs.
Hord Stubblefield gives the reading
“Sleepy Head.”
