For Judge Probate Twenty-one boys and girls are feeding 36 baby beef calves in l-HT clubs in Muscatine county, Iowa. The report on gains for June and the first six months show very in teresting results. For instance, the calves made an average gain of 59 1-2 pounds in June. They made an average gain for the six months on feed of 70 pounds. The drop in June from the average is normal, due to heat and flies. Muscatine county i-H calves have made a fine showing on the scales and in the show ring, so their gains offer a chance for other members to check against. Some very high gains were made by members in June, two tieing at 100 pounds.. Next best was 90 pounds, then 80 and all the way down to 20 for low. Ten of the number made an aver age of 75 pounds. This is 2 1-2 pounds a day. William Anderson, who made one of the 100 pound gains in June also heads in gain for the six months. This is 570 pounds or an average of 95. A girl, his sister, Lucy, made the other 100 pound gain in June. She has 525 pounds to her credit on her calf for the six months, or an average of 87 1-2 pounds. William Anderson’s best gaining calf was fed in June 250 pounds of ground ear corn, 100 pounds ground barley, 3 gallons of molasses, 50 pounds oil meal, 15 of bran ,and 100 pounds of hay. A man—or’ a woman—can run only so fast. He —or she—can jump so high. There is a limit to what the human body can do in athletic competition. But a look at the summaries of the Olympic Games at Los Angeles tell another story. Not only were many new Olympic records established but new world’s records were made. For example, the 440-meter run, was won by William Carr, of the United States, in the amazing timer of 46.2. That breaks both the present Olympic record and the world’s record. A look at the list of names of champions of the 1932 Games re veals the international character of the contests. An American won the shot-put, a: Canadian the high jump, an Irishman the . hammer throw, a Pole the 10,000 meter run, an Irishman the 400-meter hurdles, an American the 100-meter dash, an Englishman the 800-meter run, and so on.. They describe' Miss Milrdred (Babe) Didrikson;. of the United States as the “one-man” track team. She started off by winning the Javelin throw, establishing a new record. Then she won the 80-meter hurdles'. She was adlow 1 - ed to enter but three events. She wanted to enter half a dozen.. Ellsworth Vines, Jr., American singles champion, defeated Henri Cochet, admittedly the greatest of all amateur tennis players, during the recent Davie Cup matches in Paris. The two met after France had won the cup which may or may not account for Cochet’s de feat. Now Cochet is coming to the United States to take part in the annual men’s national champ ionship tournament. He is de termined: to lift the American title. Suppose you were a big league pitcher and in a game had succeed ed in retiring 26 men without a hit. Then up comes the 27th man and makes a hit. How would you feel? That is what happened to Tommy Bridges, Detroit right-hander, in a. game the other day against Wash ington. In India the mother names the baby, which may account for the custom in this country where fath er has nothing to do but sign the checks. The National League is seeing one of the prettiest races in the history of baseball. There are easily six teams which have a chance for the pennant. x An individual is just like an au tomobile.
