U. —That a national Department of Education with a Secretary in the President’s Cabinet was a vital need in our public school system was expressed in a resolution ad opted by the Department of Sup- erintendance of the National Edu cation Association in a recent con vention here. An equal educational opportun ity^ for every child to secure that kind of education which is best fitted to his individual needs and capacities, adapted to his probable future educational career, and properly related to his duties and responsibilities as an efficient cit izen among a self-governing peo ple, was urged. ^ Other suggestions advocated bet ter trained teachers and adminis trative officers for the schools; modem, up-to-date buildings and equipment; more extensive pro grams of instruction, and to see that national ideals, aspirations, and principles embodied in our physical, moral social, spiritual, and intellectual inheritance are implanted in the minds and hearts of the youth of America from gen eration to generation. The increased interest taken in education by the National Govern ment was approved and applaud ed. It was stated: “We observe with genuine pro fessional interest the increasing attention which public education is receiving from the National Gov ernment. President Hoover em phasized its importance in his In augural Address, and also in his message to the Seventy-first Con gress assembling in its second session. The White House Confer ence on Child Health and Protec tion has been established . A com mittee on the abolition of illiteracy has been organized. Still more significant to the educational pro fession is the appointment of a committee representative of the important educational associations and others to investigate and pre sent recommendations as to the policies which should be pursued by the Federal Government with respect to education. . . .We await the publication of the results of the studies to be carried on by these several committees with the confident hope that from such studies sound conclusions may be reached, not only as to the nature and extent of Federal encourage ment to education, but also as to the character of the administra tive agency to be put in charge of such Federal encouragement.” — X Good sanitation in the poultry flock increases the number of fer tile eggs produced during the breeding season. People are going back to the good old-fashioned principles of thrift and economy* Value is again being carefully considered* Nowhere is this more important than in the selec tion of an automobile. For the purchase of a car represents a considerable investment. It should not be decided on hurriedly, but only after analyzing every important factor that concerns cost, value and performance. The time to do this is before buying— not afterward when it is too late. On THE basis of cost, performance and the actual comparative worth of every part, the new Ford is a value far above the price you pay. It is made of better materials and with greater care and accuracy because of the recognized efficiency and economy of Ford manufacturing methods. The value of these methods is known and under stood by millions of people. It is not generally real ized, however, that these same principles of efficiency and economy are applied also to every step in the dis tribution of the Ford car. (2) The Ford charges for financing are low. (3) No expensive extra equipment is needed when you buy a Ford. The car leaves the factory ready for use. The f.o.b. price includes a Triplex shatter-proof glass windshield and an extra steel-spoke wheel, in addition to four Houdaille double-acting shock absorbers and fully enclosed four-wheel brakes. Any accessories you may wish for your individual taste are sold considerably below* the usual prices. None of these charges for sell ing, financing or accessories is marked up or increased to cover a high trade-in allowance on a used car. Get all the facts, therefore, before you buy and figure out just what you are getting for your auto mobile dollars. Go beyond the f.o.b. price and find out how much more you pay the dealer than the dealer pays at the factory. Analyze the used-car allowance. Compare all charges—item for item— value for value. When you do this you will have a new appreciation of what the Ford Motor Company and Ford dealers are doing to keep down the cost of Ford cars. You will also know T why it is possible to put so much real value into the new Ford and still retain the low price. The money you pay goes for value in the car. It is not wasted in excessive costs in manufacturing or selling. FORD MOTOR COMPANY V BRADLEY, March 12.—Mr. and Mrs. George Steifle announce the marriage of their daughter, Louise, ■o Mr. Sam T. Palmer, on Satur day March the eighth, nineteen hundred and thirty. The marriage was quietly sol emnized at the Troy parsonage by Rev. J. H. Buzhardt, the A. R. P. pastor. The marriage was quite a sur prise to their many friends. The bride was lovely dressed in a suit of tan with accessories to match. Immediately after the ceremony the young couple left for a short trip by motor. Mrs. Palmer is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Steifle. She attended Lander college. Mr. Palmer holds a responsible position with the Franklin Con tracting Company of Little Falls, N. J. They will make their home with the latter’s parents for the present. -txx- Fertilizer Formulas For Home Mixing (Thos. W. Morgan, County Agento The following list of fertilizer formulas have been worked out for farmers who are planning to buy the materials and mix their fert ilizers at heme, and the materials listed are those commonly sold by the fertilizer dealers of the coun ty. The success of home mixed fert ilizers depends upon the kind ot mixing job done. A good savin? in price can be made by home mixing. However, if the job erf mixing is poorly done, this savin? will be more than off set by poor results in the field. Cotton Fertilizers An even ton of good cotton fert ilizer can be made from the fol lowing listed materials: 7 sacks, 1400 pounds, 16 per sent Superphosphate, (Phos. Acid.) 2 sacks, 400 pounds, 25 per cent* Sulphate of Ammonia. 1 sack, 200 pounds, 48 per cent* Muriate of Potash. This formula will give a ton of a fertilizer analyzing approximately a 11-5-5, and is recommended for cotton or other crops requiring a balanced fertilizer. This material will “set up” if left for^teo long a time after 'mixing, and for '‘"that reason should not 'be stored. “V For those farmers who wish to" use cotton seed meal, the follow ing listed formula is listed: 6 sacks, 1200 pounds, 16 per cent Superphosphate, (Phos. Acid.) 2 sacks, 400 pounds, 18 per cent Nitrate of Soda. 1 sack, 200 pounds, 48 per cent Muriate of Potash. 2 sacks, 200 pounds, 7 per cent Cotton Seed Meal. This formula will give a ton of approximately a 9. 1-2-4-5, which, is good for cotton. This material will not “set up” and can be stor ed after mixing. Still another cotton formula is: 7 sacks, 1400 pounds, 16 per cent Superphosphate. 2 sacks, 400 pounds, 18 per cent. Nitrate of Soda. 1 sack, 200 pounds, Muriate of Potash. This formula will analyze a 11- 3 1-2-5, and should be used only where at least 200 pounds of ni trate of soda is to be used as a side-dresser. Corn Fertilizer For best results with corn, fert ilize with only a quickly available form of ammonia, such as nitrate of soda or sulphate of ammonia. If the com is slow starting off on your land, apply a little of one of these materials at planting time* and then side-dress with at least 200 pounds. Nitrate of Soda or 150 pounds. Sulphate of Ammonia the first application when the corn is knee high and the second when the corn is hip high. Other wise, plant the corn without arid fertilizer at planting time, and ap ply at least 200 pounds of Nitrate of Soda or 150 pounds. Sulphate of Ammonia at the times mention ed. Nitrate of Soda or Sulphate of Ammonia, or any quickly avail able form of Ammonia makes the corn. Other fertilizers are not im portant. Consult your fertilizer dealer and get his prices on the materials listed here and figure for yourself just how much you can save by mixing your own fertilizer.
