The theme of the Short Course this year centers around the health of the Homemaker. A splendid program of lecturers, demonstrations, and labor atory work has been planned. In ad- ditic*i, there will be time given to recreation, swimming, and various forms of entertainments, with Chap el each day. A similar but separate progiam is planned for the girls who will attend. On the last two days the Annual meeting of the State Council of Farm Wbmen will be held, with Mrs. E. W. McElmurry of Beech Island, the President, presiding. A splendid program for this meeting is being planned. Out of state speakers and instructors who are to assist with the Short Course are Dr. Louise Stanley, Chief of the Bureau of Home Economics of Washington, D. C., Miss Lucy Marvin Adams, of At lanta, Ga., formerly of the National Y. W. C. A., and Dr. Maud Presley, Charlotte, N. C. Six members from the women’s Home Demonstration Clubs, and six from the girls’ Clubs are given this opportunity, and every county should have its quoia there. J. PRESS BLAEKNEU. MAIN STREET There is not a film star who has worked harder, nor is more deserv ing of her success than Marion Dav ies. Marion has reached the top after a lot of struggling and she shows evidences of remaining there by her skillful work in such starring vehic les as “The Fair Co-ed,” her latest production which opens at the Dixie Theatre, Thursday, Friday and Sat urday. “The Fair Co-ed,” which was bas ed on the stage play by George Ade and Gustay Luders, proves an ex cellent vehicle for Miss Davies. She plays the role of the Ameri can co-ed as few, if any, others could have played it. Marion has a knack of looking the part she plays—and acting it. There are few stars of the screen who have a wider range of acting ability than she and there are few who can enact such a variety of characters and look like that is just what she is best in. The story opens with Marion de ciding she will not go to school at Bingham because the dean has issued a ban against student automobiles. When Johnny Mack Brown appears at her door peddling books to help defray his school expenses, Marion changes her mind and starts for the very school she had made up her mind never to attend. The story then deals with the hilarious incidents familiar to all who have attended college. At the end of the picture Marion has almost wrecked the school but she has won the heart of the boy and learned the value of loyalty to her college. It is the first feature picture this writer remembers as dealing with college from a woman’s angle—but it has been worth waiting for. Johnny Mack Brown proves equal ly as good a film actor as he was fodtball player when he was star cast of big screen names is seen in halfback for Alabama.
