The result, how ever, was a foregone conclusion, and about as little interest has been mani fcsttid over the returns as was in evi dence during the campaigns. The Republicaps will control the next #ouse. Their majority, however, has been cut down from forty-five to proba bly twenty-six, the latest returns as we go to press indicating that the Re publicans have elected. 204 congress mpn, and the. Democrats 179, with tl}rce districts, the 8th Tennessee, and the 1st and 2nd California, still very much in doubt. The Republicans lost two congressmen in California, and for the first;,ime in eight years a Demo crat was elected in Iowa. In Mary land the Democrats carried two dis tricts, a gain of two, and in Minnesota one. North Carolina voted the Demo cratic ticket, State and Federal, solid. In spite of Tom Johnson, the Repuli cans carried Ohio, by a less majority, however, than in former years. One.
