E. H. &ULL. Eirrom Why should Newberry not have a mail delivery as towns the size of Sum ter have it. Newberry and Sumter are about the same size. The rains for the past few day will greatly help the crops. We were need ing the rain very much in this section, but the prospect for a fine cotton crop was never better. Nothing, however, is certain until 2t is a reality. Our farmers were scarcely ever more in need of a good crop and a good price than they are this year. The State newspaper is giving Col. Tillman material aid in his race for gov ernor. In yesterday's paper it gives him thr& columns, all of it available editor ial space. A few more "boosts" and the rest of the gentlemen in the race for governor had just as well retire and save the expense and worry of a cam pAign during the hot summer months. ".e campaign meeting at Donnalds was conducted on a high plane and free from personalities. It is to be hoped that this pace will be kept up through out the State canvas. The public is not interested in personalities, whether they emanate from the candidate for public office or the newspaper editor, and either one who indulges in them is not worthy the support of the honora! ble and right thinking man. Death. Mrs. Lemuel C. Jobnaqp, a daugbter of Mr. Jesse Senn ol Trinity section, died at her home Sunday afternoon. Her 'remains were buried at Trinity Church, Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Whitner who says he has Ane prospect for a good cotton crop. His bloom opened on Sunday, the 15th. The next were from Mr. W. J. Wicker, who lives eight miles east of the pity, and one from Mr. R. i. Some time ago a negro who had been passing rnnder the name of George Jones, made a written contract with an industrious old. negro in the county, Jno. Brooks, to work for him on the farm, but signed the. the 'contract as Henry Jones. As soon as he signed * the contract he had the oid negro to advance him $8, with which he claimed he sieeded to move. He took the money got a ticket and left on the train. A warrant was sworn out, and afthe some diligentt work the Sheriff located hism in Charleston and on Friday 'e was brought to Newberry. Sheriff Buford never permi.ts a guilty one to escape if in hisa power to pre vent it, and in thia case he deserves - especial praise, for the party defrauded was an indaatrious, hard working old gegrot one who deserves the protection ~f the lawe as much as any one. On Saturday sixteen citizens of No. 8 Township held a meeting for the pur pose af investigating some supposed brutal treatment of a 14 year old girl of the township. After investigating the matter thoroughly they decided to have Mrs. Ellen Cromer prosecuted, or either have her and her husband give their * consent to let the girl be given a home with some person who would protect and educate her. Magistrate Chappell was seen by . he committee and on Monday sent to Mr. Berly Cromer's, the father of the girl, and told what the citlizens bad decided on. Both Mr. and Mrs. Cromer consented that the child be given a home with some one. Magis trate Chappell then carried the child to Mr. John Cousins who promises to tke the girl educate h ar and give her a home in the true sense of the word. AU C9asses Can Get It.
