E. H. -ULL. Erront A 000 MOVE. The decision by the City Council at its last meeting to build a two story brick building as headquarters for the Excelsior Fire Company is a stop in the right direction, and we hope to see the contract let and active work begun in a short time. The building, as pro. posed, is needed now, and will be needed more when the norso hose wagon is in stalled. The Fire Company ought to have it and the town ought to own it The site is a good one, convenient. and centrally located, and a structure of this kind here, besides its usefulness, would much improve the appearance of the town and rtti ct. credit upon the progressive council which made it pos sible. By all means let the work he pushed, acid it will not be long until Newberry will have as good tire pr'-tection as any town its s4ze in this country. Mr. Sam Kinard of the Nowberry cotton mills visited relatives in this section last Saturday night and Sunday. The newly elected council of Bach man Chapel church were installed last Sunday. Mr 0. W. The weather wais quite favorable for farm work last week, and the f trmcrs made good use of the time The prin eipal part of the cotton will be thinned after tnis week. We st.opped in ashort while on our return home t,o see Mr. 0. K. Baker and family. M r. Baker Is a very enthusiastic farmer andi Is realizIng good profits from his farm. We have a lot of krindred and fr.end i., thi c. ounity, and we hope soon to be able to make our visit a little longer with them so that we can have a little inore to say about Long Lane. While we are writing we learn that little Bonnie, wnom we men"tioned above, bee taken quitt. il, and Mr. Ept.s has summoned a plnvsiui,mn. Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Epp.' little, iauuh. ter, Bessie, is also sick. Mr. Editor, we don't bla'ie you for saying the State Democratie l'onveu tion was a representative body. Surely it was, when it took the legislative matter into consideration and passed a resolution favoring the old worn out Child's Labor Bill. That should be laid aside as a dead issue. We should alt feel thankful that wo live in a free country, and it is time to stop bother ing after parents about how they are to work their children. Everybody is not situated alike; uor can everybody do just alike. We venture the asser tio.n that there is nobody who has a better feeling for children than we have; but every man and woman has to provide for their own household. Very resp. cfully, May 27, 1902. T.
