The legilature wii leave in a body tomr row nornin, in a pi.'w al tr--%in over the Southern for Charl Kn. and two days wili be taken off in thi- visit to the Exposition. The :pecial train will leave Charleston on the Cots Line at 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon Not only the legislature but all attaches and all State house ofiflials are in cluded in the invitation and nearly every one is going. The State houe tomorrow and Saturday will be some what like a bit quet hall deserted. Some of the members did not think th legislature should take the trip unless the pay was knocked off al-o, and I be lieve there is a resolution not to take pay for these two days. I look upon resolu tions of this ebaracter somewhat like I do upon resolutions fixing a day for final adj)urnment They contain a good deal of buncombe and are largely a play to the galleries and meant for home consumption, though I have no doubt there are some who are honest and conscientious in introdUCir g resolutions. We do not s e an j thing specially to be gained by t.e members taking the trip txcep a- it may help the E-position, and if it do-! this it is well tttt the days should be taken off, for it is a State enterprise. though it seemi2 the trip niht have been made in one (lay. * * The important matters, or ratlier I should say, the more importan:. hace been disposed of. The electins are all off, the compulsory education bill has been kifled, the child labor L! wa1 yesterday killed in the house by a very close vote. The house the d- before refused to strike out the enacting %: rds by only two majority and yesterday the house refused to pass the bill ov two majority though at the last test some six or eight of those who votei the day before were absent. This bill had passed the senate and is mild and only prohibits the working of children under ten years of age, and it strikes me it would bave beeni better tor the mill owners to have come in and ap proved it and not fought it as they did The redistrictingr bid he paad the house, but has not yet b-en taken up in the senate. It will likelv erctA some discussion hut the probability is some redistrictinig measure will be. agreed upon. * * No corporation or anti trust legisla tion has yet been had. I do no think the legislature will go as far as to repeal the charter of the Virgrina Carolina Chemical Company, but it is probable some anti-trust bill will bc passed. *** The membe rs of the legislature were entertained last night by the Eik's lodge and a very pleasant session wa held. * * * A committee representing the Louis.i ana Purchase Expositioun has been in the city during tbe wee-k, arid last nighbt addressed the legislature urging an appropriat ion for a State building anu an exhibit from this State. It is not probable that thin legislature will make any appropriation. * * * Mr. J. J. Lane and Mr. J. D). Dav-en port, of Newberry, spent Tuesd"y evening in the city. Yesterdiay Mr. T. It changes the manner of selectiotL of thbe board of trustees and reduces the number. It also provides that no teacher shall be elected in the school who is related by consanguinity- or aflinity within the second degree to any muember of the board: and it fur ther makes the tax pe-rmane-nt and not to be voted annually. The bill will pass the house and the ceuate also un less opposa by Senator ZSlower. It is a good bill and should pass.
