Th question as to who will be New irry's next postmaster has been set led, and Mr. C. J. Purcell has .beei amed as the successful applicant. The announcement of the appoint ient was made in Washington oi 'uesday, when the President sent Mr 'urcell's nomination to the Senate foi nfirmation along with other ap ointments. Mr. Purcell was in Washington at thi me the appointment was made ani Aturned yesterday. His appointmen ras expected by his friends at home. Mr. Purcell has the ability and i apable of making us a good and effici nt postmaster. He came to Newberr: ?veral years ago and cast his lot amoni s first as clerk or Mr. D C. Flynn 'rom that he became a member of thi rm of Floyd & Purcell, which wa. ventually changed to Purcell & Spear ian, Purcell & Co., and finally to Pur ; Scott, which firm is now doinj large and successful business. Col urcell has identified himself witt very movemnt looking to the up uilding of Newberry, and is consider I one of our most successful businesi ien. It is very generally understood and ttled that Mr. James R. Davidson is t< e Mr. Purcell's assistant postmaster ad that Mr C. A. Bowman is to retain his lace as money order clerk. Mr. Davidson has held the position at ostaster in Newber. y and during hit rm gave the people good service. Mr. Bowman is an excellent clerk ani [r. Mr. Julius Cromer and Miss Eul romer, of Walton's, spent part of Christ ias in this community. The Brock band from Union cam own Christmas night and gave us som cellent music. Come again boys, w re always glad to have you with us. While on a visit at Mr. T. W. McCu] ugh's Mr. Lisha Brock came very nes eeting with a serious accident.
