Dispenser Mayer has furnished us with the following figures showing the business done at the local dispensary during the year just closed. Williams, who has been at Brevard, N. C., for the past few months running a drug businegs, has decided to return to Newherry and accept his old position at Dr. Van Smith's drug store. Miss Annie Bynum returned to Flor once Wednesday to resume her duties as teacher in the city school. Miss Bettle Land, who has been on a visit to her sister, Mrs. Juo. M. Kinard, has returned to her home in Augusta. Mrs. W. H. Wallace accompanied her son, Prof. D. D. Wallace, to his home in Spartanburg, and is visiting there. Miss Ada McCarty has returned from a visit to relatives in Saluda County, and is at home at Mr. R B. McCar ty's Mr. and Mrs. S. G. LaFar who have been visiting relatives in Newberry, re. turned to their home in Greenville Tuesday. Capt. WV. T. Jackson, who is macada mizing t,he streets inSumter,af ter spend ing the holidays at home, returned to his work Tuesday. Prof. Rahn Riser, principal of the Ninety Six High School, who has been on a visit to relatives and friends here left today to resume school work. Prof. S. J. Derrick, of Newberry College, and wife spent the holidays with the family of Mr. J. E. Hend rix ia this place.-Lexington Dispatch, 1st. Mr. Everette Folk, who is making his home in Cuba, is in New berry on a visit. He looks just, as natural as he did four years ago when he enlisted with the boys for the Spanish-American War. Robert, P. Fair of Newberry, repre senting the Standard Oil Company. spent the day here yesterday, leaving in the afternoon for a trip of several weeks through Georgia.-Greenville News, .31st. According to published announce ment, the City Council met on Tuesday evening for the purpos-o of holding their annual election for subordinate oflicers. There were many applications for the different positions, but the Council was only a short time in making their selections, and the anxious crowd on the outside was kept only a short while waiting. 'I'he following is a list of the success ful candidates, who will serve the city for the next twelve months: City Attorney-Cole L. Blease. Clerk and Treasurer-W. S. Lang ford. (hief of Police-I. C. Hunter. Policemen-S. G. Carter, f1. II. Franklin and 10 1 Bradley. Street Overseer-J. Chesley Domi nick. Lamplighter-Rial Bates. Kinard and wife returned to Columbia Friday night after a pleas ant visit to his mother's family here. Mr. Ira Nates and sisters, Misses Alma and Daisy, spent Thursday with relatives in Newberry. Was glad to hear from "Chip,s" again last week. Hope his health has improved so that he can give us the news from his section oftenor again. Mr. Earnest Fellers and family visi ted relatives here during the holidays. Mr. Nichols and wife, of St. Lukes, visited her father's family during the holidays. Mr. B. L. Miller and family will move from here in Mt. Pilgrim section this week. Mr. Bach man Cromer and family will move in the d welling va cated by Mr. Miller. Mr. Bachman Pugh and wife visited her sister, Mrs. E. M. Cook here last, week. Mr. J. D. Stone has the contract for repainting Mt. Pilgrim church. The paint brush will add much to the ap pearance of the church, and then it shows a deeper interest felt in the church by the congregation. Dr. H1. C.
