The contract to build the cottages
for the operatives of the Mollohon Man
ufacturing Company, has been let to
Mr. J. F. Grandy, the contractor who
is building the mill.

Dr. J. Mt. Kibler is having his lot
cleatted off, next to the Episcopal

house rolled back, so that he can erect
a handsome new residence at an early
date.
The matter of the appointment of a
postmaster for Newberry is still un
settled and many are still guessing who
the lucky one will be. However, it is
thought that the plum is about ripeand
is liable to drop at any moment.
Some damaging rumors have been
circulated on some good citizens of
Newberry, to the effect that they had
signed a certain ec'ored man's petition
for appoint-ment as postmaster for New
berry. Ntt sane man believes the report.
Young Hiser of New berry, who as
hurt in a railroad wreck som1etiie ago,
writes to a friend in Colurnbia that he
is but slowly retcovering. The suit for
(lamnages will not be brought in this
county, but in Newberry.--The S'ate,

wiring of the building hats not yet been

Tuesday wits circus day, and whilo
the crowd did not seem to be a circus
crowd, yet the s'owmen had to just,
gr(unds for complaint, for considering
the threatening weather and the fact
that, one of, if not the oldest,
largest, and best circuses on the road,
lobinson's, andI one its thoroughly ad
vertised aIs possible to ad vertise it,
was to follow within the next few datys,
the crowd was about what one would
ax pect., anIt t he profit's after I he day's
perfortancu sho:wed up in favor of the
circus manageenrt.
'1'he crowd was an unusually quiet
0110, only two arrests, ail theny for petty
offenevs, were mado mu riig the day;
and but little druniker'tness was to be
seen. This is douhtles. dute to the fore
sight of the board of con1-trol ill haVing
the dispensary closed- a gre'tt favor,
and one t hat is appreciated by the bet
ter el ill-nt (,f our people.
Tlhe Walter l,. Main people show
what they advertise. 'T'hey fulfilled
their prutrsises a presented on the bill
boards-more so than any circus we
have ever attended. It is an honest,
clean show. The collection of animals
was small, but the specimens of each
were good, and the actors showed much
skill in performing their wonderful
feats. The trapese performers, bicycle
riders, slack and tight wire walkers,
accrobat.ic feats and horse-hack riding,
have never been excelled by any that
eve' ap)eared in this city. l'erhaps
the feature that attracted the most ad
mniration and elicited the most, applause
from the thousands present, was the
drill of the trained horses, said to be
63 in number. They were crowded
into a circle, hardly large enough for
them to stand in comfortably, and at
the command of their trainer they
galloped around in opposite directions,
making figures with the accuracy of
human beings. This ant alone is worth
the admission charged by the Main
circus.
The crowd that attended the show
was well pleased, the management of
the Main circus is composed of a num
her of very pleasant gentlemen, and in
this connection, we would especially
mention Mr. J. D. Carey, the press
agent, who was especially considetrate
of the repreaentatives of the press.
We hope to see the Main circus in
Newberry again next, season.
