Monday afternoon, 30th inst., in Methodist church, at 4 o'clock. Dr. McJames, the celebrated ball pitcher, who was well known in New berry, died in Charleuton a few days ago. The Sunday-school of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer has changed the hour of meeting from 9.45 a. in , to 4.30 p. in. Miss Hattie Leavell, B. M., has a large music class which is progressing nicely in the art. She pays special at tention to beginners, and all of her pu pils have beeni making rapid progress. Miss Carrie Auli was not,ified a fewv days ago of her election as teacher to a position in the High school at Houston, Texas , of which Prof. C. W. Welch is principal. While the salary offered was an attract,ive one, Miss Ault has decided to decline the position, reeling that she is under obligations to remain in Newberry, the school here having already opened.
