KILLED ON TiHE SOUTHERN.
Kir. J. IV. Jay Knocked from Hit meat on
tho TracC and Killed.
Mr. J. W. Jay, who lives on Mr. Jas.
B. Clary's place in No. 0, was knocked
trom the railroad track and killed
Wednesday night about 10 o'clock, by
the east bound passenger train, No. 16,
ahout half mile cast of Silver Street.
The crow of the train did( not knowv
:>f the sad occurrence until Trhur'sday
morning, when they were informed of
what had happened.
The body was found yesterday morn
ing by the Section Master. When dis
covered the body was lying near the
track, his coat being on the track near
him. The body was not mangled, hav
ing been knocked from the track by the
cow-catcher.
Mr. Jay was evidently sitting on the
track with his back to the approaching
train, and maust have fallen asleep.
The above arc all the particulars
that could be obtained at this writing,
however the coroner has gone to the
scene and will investigate the occur
once.
Mr. Jay leaves a wife and several
children.
