The ilpworth ILeague met in O'Neall
Street Church Sunday evening at 8:30.
On account of the indisposition of Rev.
Adams, the services were conducted by
Mr. J. R. Thornton, who seems to be
very deoply interested in the League.
The program which was carried out
was a very interesting one.
I)r. Harding, of Columbia, made an
address which was a good one, and dur
ing his renarks said: "The Epworth
League Is the strongest institution that.
has ever been instituted, for it is doing
more for missionary work than al:y
other institution."
Ti'herc will be a businwss meeting to
night, when the roll of members will be
called. Next Sunday night the same
roll will be called, when each member
is to answer with a scripture quotation.

Scott Johnstone, the negro who at
the last term of the Court of Gen
cral Sessions for Newberry was con
victed in his absence of selling liquor
in violation of the dis; cnsary law, was
last week captured in Georgia and is
now safely lodged In Newberry jail.
Sheriff Buford has been on the constant
lookout for him and recently located
him at a little place in Georgia called
Thomas. Sheriff Buford asked that
requisition be made up)on the governor
of Georgia for .Johnstone and himself
wvent to Columbia personially to look
after the requisition papers. The rc
quisition was issued by Governor Mc
Sweeney and honored by the governor
of Georgia and Johnstone was turned
over and brought back home.
Sentence could not be pronounced
upon him at the last term of court be
cause of his absene.
Sheriff Buford has done seome good
work in tis ease and deserves to be
congratulated on the success which has
attended his efforts.
